SOCIALETTES AND FRIENDS (Above) pose for Zebra Magazine
during a recent Fundraiser held on Will Hunter Road. Active in the
community, the Socialettes have sent money to flood victims in South
Georgia and are planning their first anniversary celebration January

THE NORTHEAST GEORGIA BUSINESS COUNCIL (Above)
honored several small businesses for their outstanding achievements
during its annual Awards Banquet. Receiving awards were (L-R)
Council Chair Harold E. Taylor - The Outstanding Leadership Award,
Richard Williams of Athens Check Exchange - The Shaw Pioneer in
Business Award, Terry & Ann Thomas of T&A Pest Control - The
Henry Morse Community Leadership Award, M.C. Wilson of Wilson
Soul Food & Styling Center - The John T. Hurley Distinguished Ser
vice Award, Ronnie Hill of University Ford Mazda - The D.R. Green
Outstanding Business of the Year Award and W.E. “Del” Delaper
accepting the Corporate Friend Award on behalf of the Minority
Business Division of the UGA Small Business Development Center.
THE PARKVIEW SENIOR GROUP (Below) was organized by Mrs.
Jennie Mattox, Retired Parkview Recreation Center Leader, Mrs.
Brenda Richardson, Athens Housing Authority Resident Service Coor
dinator, and Mrs. Pamela Hall, a volunteer at Parkview Recreation
Center. The members are Mary Burgess, Annie Brown, Lula Jackson,
Bessie Pope, Alberta Pass, Rosie Jones, and Mary Barnett. The pur
pose of this group is to meet and have fun while doing things for
others they have adopted at Grandview Nursing Home, as well as
people in the community. The Parkview seniors are all members of
the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. The Parkview seniors have
made bibs and pillows for the people at Grandview Nursing Home
and they sing hymns during their visits also. The seniors have work
ed very closely with the Seniors Group in Rockspring Homes. The
organization has increased the membership with Mr. Milton Hollis
and Mr. Henry Johnson. These ladies and gentlemen are very
dedicated and committed to their community in the Athens Clarke
County area. They are willing to do whatever they can to help anyone
in need. They are going on a field trip to Myrtle Beach in October.
The name of the Senior who is missing in the picture is Mrs. Jennie
Mattox.
REAL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION (Below) throw birth bash for
Jame “Mack Daddy” Lumpkin Jr. far right in photo. (L-R) James
Buck Lumpkin Sr. gave Athens great musical harmonies with his lead
singing with the Twisters in the late 60s, Grains of Sands in the 70’s
and the Leaves of Grass in the 80’s. Other family members pictured
are Gerald Lumpkin, Jeff “Shade Tree” Stovall, Anthony “Jap
Baby” Lumpkin and birthday honoree, James Lumpkin Jr.
