YOUTH IN ACTION
Shannon L. Ford (Rossi), the daughter
of Secrise Gilham and Joemack Ford,
graduated from Cedar Shoals High
School in 1993. Shannon attended West
Georgia College in Carrollton, Ga. with
a scholarship in Cross-country and
track. In her first two years at West
Georgia, Shannon helped her teammates
win first place in the Gulf South Confer
ence Championships in 93’ and 94’. The
team won Conference rings and had the
opportunity to travel to California and Nebraska for the National
Championships. Shannon is a member of Black Student Al
liance and the International Television Association at West
Georgia College. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Soror
ity, and is very involved with the Carrollton community.
Presently, she is an intern with WSB Channel 2 and plans to
become a News Director or Producer in the future.

Pre-Teen America Scholarship and
Recognition Program. Kalyn Marie Bar
nett, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joe A.
Barnett Sr. of Hull, Ga. was recently a
state finalist in the 1997 Pre-Teen Geor
gia Scholarship and Recognition Pro
gram. Kalyn was the recipient of the
Judges' Award. This award is presented
to five young ladies based on their out
standing achievements in one or more
categories such as talent, interview with
the judges, and academic achievements.
Congratulations to the 1997 recipients of the Orias Johnson
Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is awarded yearly
to seniors of the 100% Club. This year's winners are (L-R)
Sandrika Crawford who plans to attend the University of Geor
gia majoring in Political Science, Kellee Wilhite who plans to
attend Georgia College and State University majoring in Biol
ogy and Madonna Fleming who plans to attend Howard Univer
sity with a major in Finance. Also pictured are (L-R) Scholar
