Chieftain Comes Off
The Press; Is Lauded
The West Georgia College Year
book, The Chieftian, came off the
press about a month ago. The
color scheme is carried throughout
the entire hook in gold and brown.
The binding being deep brown
with inset gold lettering. The
Chieftain attractively represents
all phases of social, athletic, and
educational life on the campus and
has as its theme, The Humanities.
The Humanities include the best in
the field of art, literature and mu
sic. Mrs .Thomas A. Hart’s draw
ings in this field were an appre
ciated asset to the book.
Warner Morgan added great zest
to the features by his humorous
drawings.
The Chieftain was undoubtedly
more attractive than it has been,
in the past years, and the student
body gives a vote of appreciation
to the staff.
Highest appreciation and praise
were given Editor Tom Smith,
Tunnel Hill, Ga.; and Business
Manager Bill Kelly, Blakely, Ga.
Survey of Past Term
Shows Great Strides
Made In Physical Ed.
REVIEW OF DENTAL AND EYE
SURVEYS SHOW GREAT
IMPROVEMENT HERE
Contrary to the general opinion
that Physical Education is merely
taking the proper amount of ex
ercise of the proper kind, Mr.
Braswell, head of the Physical
Education Department of this col
lege, has developed what may be
called the most complete program
in this field in the junior colleges
of Georgia.
At the beginning of the year he
The West Georgian
set out to discover and, if possible,
remedy some of tne causes of fail
ure in class work and other forms
of activity at W. G. C. His first
step was to examine the eyes of
every student in the school.
Some of the results of this ex
amination follows:
In January of 193 G, there were
forty-eight students who, accord
ing to a preliminary examination,
were in need of advice from an oc
culist. Letters were sent to the
parents of these students and as a
result twenty-eight of these have
obtained glasses. In this endeavor
the efforts of the director were
5H.25 per cent effective. Last week
twenty more letters were sent and
Mr. Braswell hopes that before
school opens next year, all who
need glasses will have them.
The next line of attack was right
in the mouth. With the kind assist
ance of Drs. Jeff Brock and Selby
Cramer, complete dental examina
tion was given to every student on
the campus. The report on the
“tooth-pickers” was that approxi
mately SI2OO needed to be spent in
dental repair. In this connection,
the parents received a letter from
the office stating the needs and ap
proximate cost of the work to be
done.
