Page Two CAMIPUI : PEIPSONALITIEJ This issue of the West Georgian, following the policy of recognizing student leadership, salutes Frank Kelly. Prominent in student activities, Kelly is editor-in-chief of the col lege yearbook, president of the French Club, an intercollegiate de bater, managing editor of the news paper, vice-president of V. R. A. and a member of the varsity base ball team with membership In the W Club. In June 1935 he was graduated from the Blakely (Ga.) High School, and entered this institution the fol lowing September because he thinks this is the best junior college in the state, and because he felt that he was more or less acquainted with the faculty as two big-shot brothers came before and during his first year here. Editor Kelly’s ancestors came ov er to this country from England and Scotland in the seventeenth century, settled along the southern Atlantic seaboard, later migrated in to the southwest, and have been at both places since then. He likes beautiful women—espe cially brunettes. But he especially likes one type of blond. As for a woman’s personality, undoubtedly intelligence is foremost, followed by a calm, smooth, and lady-like disposition. Kelly admitted that he is posi tively nutty about baseball and the Lucky Strike Hit Parade which is about to become a “business” with him. Believing firmly in self-satisfac tion, the Chieftain’s chief when in a bull session chooses women, and when in polite company chooses the past and personalities as main topics of conversation. His future plans call for a course in journalism at, he predicted, -COMPLIMENTS OF TH E HUB Carrollton, Georgia MAKE OUR STORE YOUR HEADQUARTERS WHEN IN TOWN!! After a degree, the south Georgian hopes to be either a sports writer or an editor. With little trouble perhaps, col lecting girls’ handkerchiefs is one grand hobby of Kelly’s, plus a mania for saving news stories and articles about such personalities as the late Will Rogers, who with his warm humor and home-spun phil osophy was one of Kelly’s greatest idols. Believe it or not, Frank Kelly likes to attend classes. Hart, be cause of his simple and clear teach ing technique, and because of that rare ability to get to a junior col lege student’s intellectual level, is the editor’s favorite teacher. He bitterly dislikes the conceited human, and equally likes the op posite character, “One with gentle man’s or a lady’s conduct, and one who can intelligently converse about any and everything”, he said. Reading is fairly popular with Kelly, and he especially likes old birds such as Charles Dickens and Mark Twain. Being an ardent lover of French language, he en joys translating (enjoys!!) French plays and novels. The foulest moving picture he ever saw was “The Werewolf of London”. Despite the fact that he isn’t Kelly’s favorite actor (there are three to choose from, he said) Charles Laughton did the best piece of work ever presented in “Mutiny on the Bounty.” “West Georgia needs an enlarg ed building program”, he advocat ed, “and FDR is more" thaft 0.K.” Likes to talk with Gilberto and Noritta; his opinion of the average co-ed is fine, and College Humor and Harpers Monthly are two of the best magazines on the market —thus is Frank Simon Kelly. GRADY COOK, College Agent THE WEST GEORGIAN, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8, BELIEVE IT OR ROT By ANDY FLOYD Well, Thanksgiving days are ov er, but some things are just begin ning. We wonder why Frank (sister) Burden was entertaining Novelle Hamm, Lulu Williams, Marion La nier, Emmie Baker, Gene Winn, Louise Merrill, Myric Nutt, Dorothy Watson, Dot Causey,* and Rachel Hunt in the kitchen. Was that the sewing circle, or did he take advantage of Miss Kendricks sick ness? Marge Bowen said some folks like “this way”, aWci others like “that way”, but she likes “tread-a way”. “Rich” has left dear Martha Gladd; His hairless head made Martha mad. It looks like Justice woke up too late. Pop, be it known, is loosing sleep, but not over her. Keep it up Marion, you are first choice, but keep your head. Jane O. thought she had a Bell, but Bob gave her the “gong”. Well, Woodfin has gone after the “Nutt”. (Sucker number three). Therefore, Jane, you are lost, go find yourself. We wonder what debutante Wal ter Ashworth visited on Whitehall Street after attending the South eastern Fair? Jack Huckaby is just bubbling over with love. All the boys are quoting him after attending his first public appearance last night. Florine Watson, where have you heard these words before? "You are my inspiration. You are lovely. You should see your self tonight in all your uncrowned glory. You uncover in me unseen powers, though I know not whence they come.” Practice teaching is held in room 214 by Jimmy Jones each night. He will explain Ovid’s "Ars Amatoria” on your anatomy. Jimmy knows the touch system, but not the type writer kind. G ,FT Suggestions For DAD For BROTHER ' For ?
