Page Two SOCIETY ‘Dance Prominent Af fair of Weekend on 13 he (ffampus Among the enjoyable affairs of the week end wus the dance at which the young men of the dor mitories were hosts, Saturday ev ening at the college gymnasium. The guests enjoyed dancing with mut/lc furnished by the Cedartown Capers from B*3o p. m. until 12, and during the course of the even ing there were four no-breaks and two species. Those present were members of the faculty, the student body, and several former students including: Formal Family Dinner Is Delightful Event of Sunday A formal family dinner was giv en Sunday for the young men who are taking the course “Education for Personal and Group Living," in which they have been studying table service, with Miss Jenkins acting as hostess for the group, Mr. Strozier, Toastmaster, Andy Floyd and Woodfin Cole as hosts for the students and Misses Margaret Bow en, hostesses for the student. It was a two course dinner to which the young men had invited the faculty and each boy invited a special guest. After all had contributed clever dinner speeches, Miss Jenkins in vited the entire group to adjourn to the cabin for after dinb°r coffee. —Compliments of— JONES DRUG CO. Miss Virginia Rainey was at her home in Elberton last week end. Irving Brooks spent last week end in Milledgeville visiting friends. PITTMAN PRESENTED RECITAL OF MODERN MUSIC For the January lycem program, Robert Harrison, violinist, and J. T. Pittman, pianist, both of the Atlanta Conservatory of Music, gave a joint recital Thursday night of modern classical music. Both of these young artists have attracted wide-spread attention in music circles of the state. They have presented several programs to various musical clubs in Atlanta. Emory University’s M. H. Dewey, Glee Club director, said that he considered Harrison as one of the most talented violinist that he has heard in many years. S. Ingram and Dean Fred Gunn attended the meeting of the Georgia Association of Col lege at Macon January 29 and 30. Because West Georgia has been recently admitted to full member ship in the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges, it will en joy all the privileges of member ship in Connection with it and the Georgia Association of Colleges, President Ingram stated. At the same time he discussed with Chancellor Sanford in refer ence to crowded conditions in the, College dining hall. The Chancellor’s suggestion, Mr. Ingram stated, was to make new plans for the renovation of the present dining hall . In this way, he said, the build ing will be arranged so as to ac commodate adequately the entire group, and allow for an increase in numbers in the future. PERSONAL MENTION Miss Nadine Wilbanks of Eton, Ga., -spent the week end with Miss Jane Osterhout. Friends of Miss Marion Lanier regret to learn that she is ill at her home in Roopville. Mr. Earle Newnan of Atlanta spent the week end at West Geor gia with friends. Miss Stella Wright was the guest of Miss Connie Wright over the week end. Misses Esther Rose Zill and Mar tha Harrison were in Chatsworth Sunday. Miss Dorothea Justice of Trion spent the week end with her sister, Miss Barbara Justice. Mr. Charles Bohannon of Tech spent the week end at West Geor gia. W.Q.C. Matmen First in Jr. Colleges; Third in State TEAM MEMBERS TO RECEIVE MEDALS AS AWARDS The West Georgia wrestling team gained the position of the best junior college wrestling team in Georgia in the state meet held in Atlanta January 29 and 30. Gaining fourteen points, the W. G. C. maulers became the third best amateur wrestling team in Georgia. This was determined by the officials of the state meet spon sored by the Atlanta Y. M. C. A., state champions for the eleveth time. L. E. Witt wrestling in the 118 pound class won second place, loosing only one of the three bouts he fought. R. L. Crawford gained thrid place in the 145 pound class; and Jack Fleming won a third position in the 155 pound class. In the 165 pound weight, Willis Sims became second best man by defeating Abraham of Tech High. Two West Georgia men captur ed two titles in the heavyweight division, Allyn Gunn gaining se cond, and Horton Greene third. Witt, Sims, and Gunn will re ceive silver medals recognition of their taking second place in their respective weight groups. The W. G. C. wrestling team is under the training of Coach Andy Floyd. Dr. Guy H. Wells To Speak Here Next Fri. Pres. I. S. Ingram reported Sat urday that Dr. Guy H. Wells, presi dent of the Georgia State College for Women at Milledgeville, will speak in the college auditorium Friday February 12. Since that date is Georgia’s birth day, Dr. Wells has announced that his subject will be “Georgia Prob lems.” Dr. Wells, a native of Temple, Ga., was made president of G. S. C. W. in 1934 shortly after the re organization of the University System. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Mercer University, and later his masters degree from Columbia University. For several years he was president of the South Georgia Teachers’ College at Statesboro, and is ex-president of the Georgia Education Association.
