DOROTHY WANTON, President of Girls’ Old Dormitory
Dorothy Watson, guardian angel
of the girls’ old dormitory, was
born in Atlanta, Georgia, on March
23, 1919. At the tender age of
twenty months, however, she mov
ed from God's Country to Paradise,
1. e. California, Los Angeles to be
exact. There she spent the < arly
years of her life, returning to Geor
gia in time to enter kindergarten
in the Fulton system. After four
transfers to different schools she
finally finished grammar s< hool
at Lakewood Heights. (She must
not have been able to get along
with the faculty then. My, how
she has changed).
Continuing on to high school,
she attended Fulton high school
for four years graduating in 1930
Then she came over to old Genola
to take the place by storm with
her winning ways and charming
disposition.
At the first of school she stayed
in Bowdon where she soon de
veloped an attachment for a cer
tain aspiring preacher from that
fair city. After the first quarter
she moved into the dormitory and
has since formed an added attrac
tion to that building already over
flowing with charming objects.
Dot is perhaps the hardest sub
ject that “Campus Personalities”
will have to deal with because
she is so sweet-mannered. It has
been the endeavor of the column
to give the outstanding features
of the campus leaders without in
creasing the size of their cranium,
but in this case it seems almost
impossible to say anything about
her without praising her.

Herschel Lovvorn, Prop.
THE WEST GEORGIAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1937.
r She is one of those good old
fashioned girls (the kind mother
was) whose chief ambition Is a
home and so forth. One of her
biggest hobbies is cooking and she
is really an expert at it.
She says that she never has
been in love but that she has been
badly fooled twice. (We wonder
if the preacher friend is included
in the two?) She likes personality
in the male but the color of the
hair makes no difference. She is
majoring in Home Economics, but
she doesn’t know what she wants
to become. (We think that a home
with vines would answer her prob
lems). A bit discouraging to the
preacher side of the picture is the
statement that she would never
marry a preacher. A bit of advice
that her mother gave her is also
applicable to marriage. That is
“Never marry a doctor, lawyer, or
a traveling salesman.” (Her father
is a traveling salesman.)
Her favorite teachers are Hart
and Brown. She has made thq
Alpha Psi, Women’s Glee Club,
West Georgian, Chieftain, and is
the President of the Girls’ old dor
mitory. She likes to eat and eats
almost anything except the food
down at the dining hall.
Another of her hobbies is poetry,
and her favorite authors are Amy
Lowell and Longfellow. She also
likes to gossip and likes any hu
man person.
She doesn't know what she
wants for Christmas but she will
be satisfied with anything that
Santa brings her. (Convenient
for the boy friend at least).

exact situation of the building. It
was announced that the construc

contract states that the building
will be completed 150 working
days from the date the construc
tion began.
Construction bids acepted for
other buildings in the state at the
same time are: a practice school

pany, with a bid of $126,244.
The Wheatley & Mobley Com
pany, of Augusta, was low bidder

the State College of Agriculture,
in Athens, with a bid of $101,840.
I wish every teacher and all the students at West Georgia A
very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year. I also wish A
safe return for each and every one after the holidays are over.

Columbus Repeats
In Dormitory
It has happened! A miracle, li
terally speaking, has been per
formed . . . West Georgia is wak
ing up . . . and as a result of the
great awakening, the long longed
for dream to keep their lights on
all night.
Heretofore there was always a
great confusion and turmoil
around the young hour of 10:30
when all little girls, as the girls
here are thought of usually, were
supposed to be in bed. Now the
situation is quite a different one.
At 10:30 every girl is in her room
. . . we hope ... to resume her
unfinished tasks, and to keep on
her light until those duties are
finished.
It seems that every girl is get
ting a bigger kick out of living
in the dormitories now that she
is able to stay up as late at night
as duty demands. If accidents oc
cur in the night, the button the
wall has only to be pushed and
you have the first convenience
needed . . . Light . . . Ah! Can
we be dreaming?
Now, girls, that we have the
lights on all night, lets prove
that we are worthy of the great
favor and wish that the ensuing
students of West Georgia College
will never know what was meant
by “Lights Out,” at 10:30 at least.

Mu Zeta Alpha
Plans To Start
State Society
Mu Zeta Alpha held it’s monthly
meeting December 2. Two of the
members taking part on the pro
gram were Wilburn Boggs and
Kermit Harris. The topic of the
evening was Chemistry.
Mr. Boggs gave a very interest
ing discussion on “Recent Medical
Discoveries.” The second speak
er, Kermit Harris, demonstrated
a number of chemical tricks which
proved to be both educational asd
amusing.
The club made plans to take part
in the various contests on the
campus which are open to each
club.
It was announced that the Mu
Zeta Alpha is putting out an ef
fort to establish a State Junior
College Honorary Scientific So
ciety. The Club has corresponded
with over a dozen Junior Colleges
in the state explaining the pur
pose and details of such an organi
zation. Each college has been giv
en a copy of the Scroll and the
Constitution of Mu Zeta Alpha.
If these various Colleges think the
idea good, it is the local club’s wish
that they become associated with
Mu Zeta Alpha or if they prefer,
organize an entirely new Scienti
fic Society.
Should this state organization
be formed, it will be the first Na
tional Scientific Society for Junior
Colleges in the United States.

Later in the night the women
with Miss St. Clair toured Carroll
ton in the bus and sang carols and
songs to those who had not been
to the program. They closed an
eventful night with a serenade to
the boys’ dormitory.
The two clubs are already plan
ning several programs for the rest
of the year including tours of the
nearby towns.

Teachers Meeting
Held Recently
On Friday, December 10, the
Carroll County Teachers met in
the auditorium of West Georgia
College at 2 P. M. with J. B.
Bowen, President of the Associa
tion in charge.
A number of important matters
were discussed at this time, in
cluding a Christmas Social for the
teachers of the county. This meet
ing brought the teachers together
for plans in their work for the
coming year.
Ethel Neil Rowe, English teacn
er and librarian in the Temple
school, gave an interesting and
challenging talk on “Organizing
the School Library.”
After the general session the
group was divided into sections
of committees, each for the pur
pose of discussing types of mater
ials of instruction. These groups
are trying to bring to the teach
ers’ attention all the best mater
ial that may be applicable to what
ever she teaches.
