GUEST EDITORS: Claude Sims and Sam Reed
This and that about sports here
and there.
Max Schemling won another
bout Monday night by a technical
knock out over Thomas. It seems
that he might get that chance at
Joe Louis —here is hoping.
Alabama goes to the Rose Bowl
with all odds against her. If
’Bama keeps going it will soon be
a ’Bama rose instead of a Cali
fornia rose. This makes the fifth
trip.
Here is hoping that Harry Mehre
is more appreciated on his next
job. Give him backing and he will
win games.
Dizzy Dean, more dizzy than ev
er, plays Santa Claus to 600 under
privileged children. Here’s hop
ing that he is better at that than
he is at baseball. He, at least,
can’t be so egotistical.
The Tech Jackets will have to
do without Ben Jones this year.
He has just had an operation.
West Georgia plays her first of
ficial game of the season January
8, with Reinhardt. Don’t have
too good time Xmas, teams.
Sims, Konemann, Hartman, Tins
ley, get pro grid offers.
Gehringer becomes official bat
champ of the American League.
Re finished with a plate mark
of .371.
Inventor says cage sport doom
ed .. . Wonder how he gets that
way . . .
Why aren’t the Sugar Bowl and
the Orange Bowl as famous as the
Bowl of Roses?
Isn’t it good that exams come
before Christmas so that we can
enjoy the holidays?
This is our first appearance in
the West Georgian and we hope
we have not bored you too much.
It’s no easy matter to write a
column in thirty minutes!
Merry Christmas to everybody,
and we’ll see you next year.

feated the West Georgia Braves at
the city gym last Friday night in
the first game of a series of five
games. The Braves showed a
good fighting spirit although they
came in on the tail end of a score

This being the first game of the
season for the Braves, everyone
that witnessed the battle are won
dering what the Braves are going
to do this year on the cage sche
dule prepared by Coach Taylor.
The Braves have a very tough
schedule but should come out
ahead of the half-way mark.
Captain Bob Bell led the scoring
for the Braves and Lambert led
the scoring for the Athletic Club.
The line-up:

The Warren Company, using the

He believes that it will be especial
ly worthwhile for high school
coaches to make it possible for
the squads to see the game here on
December 28th.

The Debating Club plans to start
off the next quarter with quite a
few new projects and the culmina
tion of several previously announ
ced aims of the club.
The Club is taking into serious
consideration entrance into the
annual Southeastern Debating
Tournament to be held this year
at Bear Elk, North Carolina.
Another project that will be
brought to a close this quarter is
the long - contemplated entrance
into the National Debating Society,
Phi Rho Pi. When this affilia
tion is completed those members
of the intercollegiate debating
teams at present will be the char
ter members of this chapter.
The state-wide debating tourna
ment between Junior Colleges
which was so successful last year
will be repeated again this year if
the wish of Mr. Ingram as ex
pressed to Dan Brewster, Presi
dent of the Club, is fulfilled. Plans
are already underway for this
year’s tournament.
The fourth objective of the club
for the next quarter is the re
newing of the ancient feud be
tween clubs on the campus in the
annual college debates between
clubs. The officers have stated
that this meet will take place soon
and that it would be well for the
various clubs to begin thinking
about it as soon as possible.

Women’s Glee Club
Found Superstitious
Do you believe in black cats as
symbols of ill omen? Evidently
the members of the Women’s Glee
Club do. Here’s the way it hap
pened.
After touring the town of Car
rollton caroling, a member, (Ra
chel Hunt) of the club suggested
that the club go out to the aim
house and sing carols for the in
mates. The members of the club
were whole-heartedly behind this
move. "Ma Saint” gave her con
sent, and the journey was begun.
On the way to the Alms house,
the club sang several songs at dif
ferent street corners and different
home. Finally the clusb arrived
at the Alms house.
The bus driver (Shirley Sherrill)
drove down the road to the drive
way and drove up into the yard.
The girls began to sing full blast
when they turned in the yard.
Just as the bus reached the
building next to the alms house a
black cat darted across the road
directly in front of the bus. As
usual someone (Dot Causey)
screamed, “Black Cat!” Hearing
this, everyone started yelling,
“Black Cat!” “Turn Around.”
Well, nothing was left to do ex
cept to turn around and leave. All
the fun was spoiled by one, inno
cent little creature, the dreaded
Black Cat.
