Local Debators To
Meet U. of Ga.
Agriculture Team
A debate is to be held between
West Georgia College and the Uni
versity of Georgia Agricultural
Club on January 28, President
Brewster announced recently. The
Georgia Club is to send the af
firmative debaters here and the
affirmative debaters from West
Georgia will go to Athens to de
bate at the same time.
The Club is also planning an
Intra-Mural Debating Tournament
to be held the second week in
February. All Clubs are asked to
be thinking of the members whom
they would like to have represent
them in the tournament. The
subjects for debating will be vari
ed.
Tryouts for the debate with the
Athens team will be held at the
next meeting. All those interested
are to see President Dan Brewster
before the next meeting.
Notices will be posted on the bul
letin board from time to time con
cerning this matter.

This year marks the sesqui-cen
tennial of the adoption of the feder
al constitution by Georgia. On the
second day of January 1778, Geor
gia ratified the Federal Constitu
tion in a Convention at the Capi
tol in Augusta. West Georgia Col
lege is planning two programs in
commemoration of this event. A
student program to be held Tues
day and later a college and com
munity program is to be held at
which some distinguished speak
ers will speak.

Monday, January 17, has been
set as the time for the arrival of
these new students, although a
few will probably be coming in
all the time. N. Y. A. officials are
still checking the lists and looking
over applications; consequently no
list of names has yet been issued.

Dr. Roberts Speaks ...

At the close of his talk, the doc
tor presided over an open forum
discussion, and in reply to a ques
tion regarding the Ellis Health
Law and malaria, Dr. Roberts in
formed the club that had this law
been put into effect here, there
would have been a decrease in
the mortality rate of malaria.
Seven neophytes, present at the
meeting, were invited because of
their high standing in one or more
courses of the Science-Mathematics
division of study. These students
were as follows:
Biology: Eloise Kilgore, Ira Myr
tle Perry, Madia Rose Thomason,
and Vernelle Thompson.
Chemistry: Virginia Brown, and
Henry Hardman.
Mathematics: Lamar Hammond.
The above neophytes will be re
quired to write a paper on some
scientific subject. Their initiation
will be held on Wednesday night.
