Past Year
Expenditures of the National
Youth Administration here at West
Georgia for the past school year
amounted to approximately $9,494.
Regular college N. Y. A. received
$3,515 and' special residential pro

well.
This is the third consecutive
year that the Youth Administration
has provided part-time jobs for
West Georgia students. The spe
cial residential project has been
in action only since January of
this year.
West'Georgia College is among
the seven institutions in the state
that were selected to foster the
N. Y. A. residential work centers

year these students received train

SANFORD LIBRARY
Miss Annie Belle Weaver, librarian, recently re
leased a list of statistics which reveal a marked im
provement in the local library set-up.
Statistics Show Interesting
Facts About Local Library
Probably one of the most fre
quently visited spots on the cam
pus is Sanford Library. Although
this new building was probably
used as a dateing polor by some
students, Miss Annie Belle Weav
er, librarian, gave the following
statistics to prove that it is still
a part of the educational program
at West Georgia College.
Exclusive of Government Docu
ments and pamplets, there are 4,-
484 volumes in the Sanford Li
brary. There were 1,011 volupies
acquired during the 1936-37 aca
demic year and the fall into the
following classification: reference,
105; fiction, 111; bibliography, 52;
travel, 52; plays, poetry, 126; es
says, anthopologies, arts and
science, educational, etc., 567.
In the field of periodicals, the
library acquired 17 new subscrip
tions which brings the total to 74.
There are nine newspapers to
which the college subscribes.
The 1937-38 funds through which
the college bought its new addi
tions were the Carnigie Corpora
tion Grant, West Georgia Book
Fund, and the West Georgia Maga

zine Fund. The various amounts
of money received respectively
were: $3,000.00, $1,100.00 and S2OO.
Next, Miss Weaver gave some
statistics concerning the library
circulation. In 193637 only 12,-
701 were withdrawn whereas 15,-
471 have been withdrawn up to
date. This is an increase from 42
books per pupil to 51 per pupil
or a nine book increase this year.
The greatest increase in books
withdrawn were in the fields of
fiction, biography and travel.
However it is noted that there
was a decrease in the number of
reserved books withdrawn in 1937-
38. This seems to indicate that
the professors are tending to be
come lax or that students are not
as interested in outside readings
as they were in the past academic
year.
Miss Weaver has served as li
brarian of West Georgia College
since its beginning in 1933. She
has guided the library from in
fancy into its growing youthful
ness and much of the success of
Sanford Library is due to Miss
Weaver’s untiring efforts.
