Scheduled For
Year 1939-40
Continuing its popular chapel
programs, West Georgia has sche
duled many prominent personages
to address the student body. Last
year various chapel programs, under
the? direction of President Ingram,
drew a wide-range of attention
from not only the student body, but
also from the people of Carrollton
and surrounding communities.
Beginning the school year several
state-wide leaders, including Abit
Nix, Ralph McGill, and Hubert
Quillian. October 9, Mr. Nix, well
known Georgia statesman and also
representative of the Y. M. C. A.
will address the student body;
October 17, Mr. McGill, executive
editor of the Atlanta Constitution,
will speak; and on October 24, Hub
ert Juillian, President of LaGrange
College, will return to the West
Georgia campus. -

Mr. Joe Campbell, a graduate oi
the University of Georgia with a
B. S. degree in agriculture, will be
the new Farm Manager and as
sistant dormitory supervisor.
Miss Kennon Henderson, who has
an A. B. J. degree, will teach danc
ing as a part of the physical edu
cation program. She is also work
ing with the Residential N. Y. A.
Project.
Professor T. O. Gurley replaces
Mr. H. E. Simmons as the teacher
of shop work and vocational agri
culture for the N. Y. A. boys. Both
the positions of Mr. Gurley and
that of Miss Dorothy Doster, who
will teach Home Economics for the
N. Y. A. girls, were made possible
by the Vocational Board. Mr. Gur
ley has a B. S. degree in agricul
ture while Miss Doster has a B. S.
degree in Home Economics.

will be followed the next week by
McGill. Quillian will be herad on
October 24.
Colorful Pageant
To Mark First Meet
Of Alphi Psi
Alpha Psi Home Economics club
will begin the 1939-40 year with a
candle lighting ceremony at the
first meeting of this period. This
impressive pageant is a traditional
part of the initiation of new mem
bers and plans are being completed
for this program. Officers of the
club, which include Emily Shell,
president; jDhristine Johnson, vice
president; Catherine Adams, sec
retary; and Anne Appleby, treas
urer, will take part in the service.
Miss Ruby Jenkins, instructor in
Home Economics, is faculty advisor.
Alpha Psi has been an outstand
ing campus organization since West
Georgia was founded. It was es
tablished in the interest of Home
Econemirs and is composed of Stu
dents majoring in this subject. The
name is derived from the that in
the beginning the club was compos,
ed of twenty-three members. Last
year the Alpha Psi sponsored pro
grams on social, professional and
financial studies in Home Econo
mics. The Alpha Psi sponsored
three dances during the last year.
Complete plans for the coming
year are rapidly being formulated
and splendid work is expected to
be done.

VISITS CAMPUS
Visiting the college for the first
time since its seventh official open
ing. Dr. Edwin R. Embree. Chicago,
president of the Julius Rosenwald
Fund and noted American educator,
spent yesterday, October 2, at West
Georgia.
Accompanying Dr. Embree were
Dr. Franklin C. McLean, professor
at the University of Chicago and
trustee on the Rosenwald Fund,
and Mr. and Mrs. James F. Simon,
associate Director of Rural Educa
tion.
Besides visiting West Georgia
College, Dr. Embree stated that he
and his staff planned to visit the
Rosenwald project in Fort Valley.
