LIBRARY HOLDS
HIDDEN TREASURES
West Georgia sophmores and
juniors are well-acquainted with
the Library, its staff, and its many
unique features, but there are
numerous interesting facts about
this institution which may be still
unknown to the freshmen. Be
cause the Library is for the use
of the students is would obviously
be practical for the students to
be well-informed about it.
The buildings at the end of the
campus houses three separate li
braries. The largest one occupy
ing the main floor and familiar
to most of the students, is the
West Georgia Library, which con
tains fiction, non-fiction, referen
ce, magazines, and various other
literary materials for the exclu
sive use of West Georgia. Down
stairs. Below the college library
reading room is located the Ma
terials Bureau primarily operated
for the benfit of the elementary
school teachers of Carroll Coun
ty. This Bureau is headed by
Miss Tietje, Carroll County Ele
mentary School Supervisor. In
her absence the Bureau is head
ed by Miss Downs. The third li
brary operated within the walls of
this building is the Heard and
Carroll County Regional Library,
Miss Edith Foster, librarian.
The West Georgia Library had
its humble beginning in Room A
-3 in the Administration Building.
The first secton of the present
building made its debut in 1938
and was remodeled and extended
in 1941.
Annie Bell Weaver, Col
lege librarian, is assisted by four
students; two sophmores, Barba
ra Roland and Annette Ham
mond; two freshmen.
At present the Library owns
close to 10,000 volumes as well

Two of the most interesting fea
tures of the Library are the Bul
letin Board and the Exhibit Case,
which are changed periodically
and planned to please the stu
dents. At present the exhibit case
holds samples of Dr. Folger’s
wood carvings.
Art lovers and laymen alike en
joy the landscape pictures above
the exhibit case, painted by Van
Gogh, and Norman Rockwell’s

room, which were given to the
Library by President Ingram.
Other objects of interest found
in the Library are the basketball
trophy on the magazine rack, the
picture of Mr. Gordon Watson,
and on Miss Weaver’s desk the
small blue vase which holds a
story all its own.
"OUR PETS"
We have some pets at the cab
in. They belong to the insect fam
ily but they are not the common
type that stay hidden during the
day and sneak about at night,
bothering poor little helpless
creatures. These carnivorous lit
tle insects eat only the choicest
meat of human beings.
One of their most remarkable
qualities is they can stay up all
night. All day I see, hear, and
feel them. Then when eleven o’-
clock comes and I go to bed, I
think they will go to sleep too,
but no —they are very courteous
little fellows and attempt to hum
me to sleep first. When they see
this doesn’t work they get play
ful. Zip, my ear. Zing! my arm,
and so on until I am exhausted
from fighting. Finally I decide
to cover up my head. Avery
good idea he thinks, so he crawls
under too.
Not wanting to hurt his feel
ings I turn over and try to make
the best of it. —It’s just too
much!
’'Mrs. Payne, may I borrow the
fly spray.” So with DDT in one
hand and magnifying glass in
the other I begin my search. In
every corner and even under the
bed I look, but no where can he
be found! So I get back to bed —
Listen, what do I hear? "No it
couldn’t be.” "Oh, yes it is—”.
Oh, well, a little old mosquito
never hurt anybody anyway.

Zeta Sigma Pi Announces
New Program
The Zeta Sigma Pi held its
first meeting Thursday, Septem
ber 27, 1945. Louise Hendrix,
President, announced that a plan
of organization somewhat differ
ent from that of any previous
year had been worked out.
Through this plan the purpose
of the club, which is to deal with
social problems and current af
fairs through "investigation, dis

ter carried out. With this setup,
the membership divides into
three or possibly four groups af
ter the business meeting of the
club has been concluded. Each
member has a choice of one of
these groups for a period of one
quarter. At the end of this time,
the student can change over to
another group if he or she de
sires. The groups and faculty ad
visors are as follows:
1. Debating and Public Speak
ing, Dr. Folger. West Georgia
in past years has had fine debat
ing teams wth good representa
ton in debating contest in the
state. It is our purpose this year
to have debates in chapel and if
possible to enter debating con
tests.
2. Social Problems and Cur
rent Affairs, Dr. Roberts. This
group will use the method of
forums and discussions to clear
up any problems and current af
fairs that confront them.
3. Books, Miss Chute. This
group will make a careful study
of the books that have caused
widespread criticism and specula
tion in order to discover both
good and bad qualities. They will
also read books that affect every
