Beating The Tom-Tom
WOMENS SPORTS
W.G.C. Sextet Downs Sqaws
The W.G.C. Cagers were out
for scalps to add to their tally
when they trampled the Squaws
from Carrollton High, 25-11, in a
tilt held in the gym, March 7. Bar
rett, Beasley, and Goode were
hih scorers with 10, 8, and 7
points respectively, for the home
team.
West Georgia Cagers Win Over
Young Harris, 35-15
In another game, the West
Georgia basketeers were trium
phant when they defeated the
visiting Young Harris team, 35-15.
Barrett and Beasley again led the
scorers with 13 and 10 points.
Varsity Basketball Team Chosen
A group of high spirited, hard
fighting girls made the basketball
varsity this season. The following
were chosen from the Freshman
and Sophomore A and B teams:
Moon, Hunt, Barrett, Cunning
ham, Acree, and Terrell. The
squad consists of Beasley, Dukes,
Turner, Goode, Barrett, L., Entre
kin, Garner, and Potts.
Freshmen Win Over Sophomores
The Freshman A’s defeated the
Sophomore A’s 26-20 in the de
ciding game of the Freshman-
Sophmore tourney. Moon, Tur
ner, and Dukes rang up 11, 7, and
8 points respectively. Hunt got
10 and Barertt got eight for the
losers.
Preceding the final game the
"Rat” B team put the Sophomore
B’s out of circulation by a score
of 28-20. Beasley paced the win
ners with 16 points.
The Freshman A team defeated
the Sophomore B’s 32-2. Dukes

tallied 12 points while Moon and
I urner were close behind with
II and 10 points.
In another tilt, the Sophomore
teamsters proved their superior
ity when they crushed the Fresh
man B’s 35-20. Barrett, Goode,
and Hunt led the winners with
13, 11, and 11 points. Whitmore
was tops for the losers with 12
points.
Melson Captures Dormitory Title
Melson captured the dormitory
basketball title, when they down
ed Adamson 30-15, in the final
tilt. Goode tallied 16 points for
the strong team.
Adamson defeated the Cabin,
25-15, thus eliminating the losers
from the tourney. Turner led the
team on to victory by scoring 11
points.
Melson put Mandeville out ,of
circulation after taking a 22-12
victory over Mandeville. Barrett
took high scoring honors with 10
points.

The Braves have finished the
1946 season with 10 wins and 6
losses. Not a single game was lost
on the home court . . . Congratu

such a fine coach during the bas

In the final game of the 1946
basketball seanson, Berry College
of Home was overcome by the
Braves of West Georgia 68 to 39.
The Braves had won one game
and lost one game to Berry this
season and this game was a play
off between the two teams.
The game was closer than the
score indicated, however, with
the Braves definitely outplaying
Berry during the entire contest.
In the first quarter the Braves
with fast breaks quickly estab
lished a comfortable lead, which
they held during the entire game.
The second quarter was unev
entful, with the Braves adding
more goals to their score, and
Berry showing more pep and vi
gor. At the half the score stood
29 to 1 in favor of the Braves.
In the third quarter both teams
showed more life and a closer
game was played during the per
iod.
In the fourth quarter the Bra
ves played heads-up ball all the
way to add up their 68 to 39 vic
tory.
All the substitutions were play
ed and after the game a cheer
went up from both teams to mark
the end of a very successful sea
son for the Braves.
Clyde Gordon and Billy Reid
played an excellent guarding
game with Ray Jones, Denson
Yates, and Paul Rogers scoring
most of the markers for West
Georgia.

Police in Portland not long ago
received the following note: "The
guy who lives next to the police
station is a crook and ought to be
persecuted to the fullest extent
of the law. I cracked his safe last
night and found it full of black
market gas coupons. Signed—A

BRAVES SWAMP YOUNG
HARRIS, N. GEORGIA
The W. G. C. Braves added two
more victories to their string ot
wins to bring the total of the
season up to 10 wins and six
losses.
YOUNG HARRIS
On March 1, Young Harris
bowed the Braves 90 to 30 in a
run-away game on the local
court.
At the end of the first quarter
the Braves were in a comfortable
lead 27 to 2. All the substitutions
were played during the second
quarter while the first team took
a well-deserved rest for the first
time this season. The subs show
ed lip well in the game, holding
their own and outplaying the
Young Harris boys all the re
mainder of the first half.
The second half got underway
with the first team back in their
positions to run up a 71 to 22
score in the 10 minutes they play
ed.
With subs back in during the
last quarter the score advanced
to 90 to 30. The Young Harris
boys showed good sportsmanship
in the game and on the campus as
well, and all the players remark
ed on the fine hospitality they re
ceived while visiting West Geor
gia.

tory of the week end on Satur

to 34.
This was the third time this
season that the Braves had met
the Cadets, being defeated on the
North Georgia court 61 to 37; and
again defeating them on the local
court 77 to 34.
The first quarter was slow with
each team playing heads-up hall,
but the Genola Five began to
click in the second quarter to set
up a good lead at the half.
In the second half the Braves
outplayed the Cadets and in the
later part of the third quarter
substitutions began to come in.
All the subs were played and the
first team was again given a well
deserved rest.
The game ended with a cheer
from both sides, showing good
sportsmanship from each team,
the final score being 77 to 34 in
favor of the Braves.
