DEVOTED TO THE BEST INTEREST OF WEST GEORGIA COLLEGE
WEST GEORGIA COLLEGE, GENOLA, GEORGIA. SATURDAY, JUNE 8,194 fr
Sophomores Honored
By Freshmen
At Final Dance
On Saturday night, June 1, 1946,
the Sophomore Class of 1946 was
honored by the Freshman Class
at an annual dance in the College
gymnasium. On this occasion each
year the Freshman Class bids
farewell to the retiring Sopho
more Class and welcomes all
West Georgia alumni into its
realm.
Music for the occasion was
furnished by Jack Kranyik of
Rome and his orchestra. Featur
ed on the drums was "Pickle”
Leach, former drummer from Hal
Mclntire’s orchesra.
During intermission Grady Tim
berlake, who has honored us once
before with his talent, gave a spe
cialty tap performance.
The students were very gay on
this occasion, even the sopho
mores who underneath wore ex
pressions of regret due to the
realization that this was their last
dance as West Georgia Sopho
mores.
Added to the gaiety of the stu
dents, faculty, and guests were
gay costumes. The girls looked
their best in their lovely formal
dresses for the occasion and the
boys looked very handsome in
their neatly presesd suits.
The dance was indeed acclaim
ed a great success and all who at
tended are looking forward to
1947 when they may again attend
this annual dance, one of the
highlights of the school year.
Mr. Hugh Wallace of Athens
will teach art at West Georgia
College next year. This added
feature gives further strength to
the offerings of the College.
College Elects
46-47 Officers
A rousing campaign for Sopho
more Student Body officers was
brought to a close Tuesday morn
ing. F'or days posters were shin
ing on trees, dangling from build
ings, and reposing against steps,
fireplugs, and the like. The new
borders on the walls above the
bulletin boards in the main halls
of the "Ac” testified to some
body’s hard labor and bravery.
Even in the dining hall the cam
paigners were busy. When one
reached his table, his hands
would be filled with cards, and
his plate, with cards and "remem
brances”, such as toothpicks.
The following night the waiting
and suspense were over when the
final results were announced.
It seemed that Tucker and Mor
gan ran a close race, but were
topped by Lewis Adams in the
race for Student Body President.
Key, Moon, and Finch all sail
ed into the race for Student Body
Vice - President, with a will to
win, but it seems that Finch and
Moon just couldn’t let go. Finally,

Walking” and "Folks Do Get
tv member and author of "Cloud
Born”, was given by the West
Georgia Faculty May 28, 1946, at

The library was very beautiful
for this occasion. Gladioli and
magnolias and the arrangement
of the tables made it look its very
best.
The guest list included many
friends of Miss Campbell and the
college, from Carrollton and oth
er places. They were greeted at
the door by Miss Marian Crider

Mr. Rockwell was very friend
ly and informal while giving his
interview, both in speech and ac
tion. Drinking a "coke” and
leaning lazily against a wall, Mr.
Rockwell exclaimed "Oh! you
again”, as the West Georgian re
porters entered. With his broad
friendly smile, Mr. Rockwell oc
casionally laughed as he related
his humorous comments and lift
ed the veil of dignity from about
him.
