following the next SGA meeting.
Another : ssue receiving com
ment within the SGA was the
lounge hours. Definite actions are
being taken in this area. The
general consensus of the SGA is
that this student lounge should
be opened until 10:00 p.m. each
week-day evening as it has been
in the past. Also in connection
with the student lounge, a motion
was carried to have stamp ma
chines placed in the post office
area to alleviate some of the
crowded conditions.
The dances for this year will
be sponsered by the following
classes. The Sophomore Class
will be responsible for the Home

these individual classes with
planning the dances.
A suggestion box will be
placed in the administration to
assist the student opinion com
mittee in collecing ideas and
suggestions from all the students.
These suggestions will be
brought before the SGA for their
fullest consideration.
A free tutoring system has
been established within the SGA.
If you need assistance in your
subjects, submit your request to
the SGA office and a tutor will
be assigned to you.
Tlie book exchange program
will be in operation again Win

sound academic practices. Under
the double average system a stu
dent might be graduated because
he had earned 180 hours of C
even though he failed to earn a
C average on all his college
work. But when this same stu
dent asked for a transcript for
job application the college had
to send his overall average. Few
employers would hire this stu
dent with less than a C aver
age. Why should West Georgia's
standards for graduating him be
any lower than an employer’s
standard for hiring him? Also
one might ask what the em
ployer’s opinion would be of a
college that would graduate a
person with less than a two
point total average. The cumula
tive average now in operation re
moves this double standard
thereby making it possible for
the college to recommend with
out reluctance any student who
earns a degree here.
The cumulative average is al
so fairer to earnest students
who come here expecting to earn
a respected degree. It dis
courages the entry and re-entrv
of these students vsho continual

how escape exclusion. Under the
double average system a student
might remain here more than
tour years, repeat and improve
his grades in all the courses he
failed, and be graduated with a
three point average. A serious
student who had been here only
four years, neither failed and

Does the degree of the first

as that of the second? Did the
