Looking Back

The following items are based on issues of the
West Georgian; dating from February, 1938, to Novem
ber, 1938.
Professor L. E. Roberts and J.
C. Bonner, of the social Science
Department of West Georgia col
lege, edited a history book en
titled ‘Studies in Georgia His
tory and Government.”
The prices of the Turner’s
Taxi Service were ten cents
lor one passenger to town, twen
ty cents for two passengers to
town, and a quarter for a full
load.
West Georgia College during
the first five years of occupancy
grew from two hundred and
thirty-two students to three hun
dred and fifty-three. During that
lime (he personnel of the faculty
had almost doubled.
The college book store was
located in the Administration
Building.
Plans were being made for a
new auditorium, dining hall, and
gymnasium combined in one
building.
During the spring quarter in
1938. the first Alumni Associa
tion of West Georgia was form
ed.

Senior Committee Holds Meet
To Formulate Hinj* Decisions

A group of Seniors met last
week with a representative from
The Balfour Company to decide
on two tilings: Whether to change
the girls type of senior ring to
the minature boys-type or to
keep the dinner-type that is now
being used, and if the size of
the boys ring should lx 4 larger.
It was decided that an election
should be held to comply with
the seniors’ wishes.
From the outcome of the elec
tion. the seniors decided to
keep the dinner-type ring for
girls and to make the boys ring
Naval Team to
Visit College
On November 13-14. the Navy’s
Aviation Information team will
visit West Georgia College. Dur
ing (heir visit they will be glad
to explain all phases of the
Na\al Aviation program to those
interested.
Young men between the ages
of 18 and 26 are eligible to ap
ply for Naval Aviation programs.
Upon graduation from college,
successful candidates may select
pilot training or one of the non
pilot Aviation Specialist pro
grams. The Naval Aviation Cadet
program is available for those
with a minimum of ninety quar
ter hours or sixty semester
hours. Unlike the AOC program.
NavCads must be unmarried.
Those who qualify will be pro
vided transportation to Naval
Air Station Atlanta in Marietta.
Ga There they will take all
necessary physical and mental
examinations.
Cadets receive $161.15 per
month while in flight training.
After commissioning as an En
sign (or second Lieutenant in
the Marine Corps) the monthly
wages are $370.18 (single) or
$455.68 (married). After comple
tion of four years active serv
ice it will increase to $533 20
(single) or $627.4S (married).

Suspicion,” “Overland Express,”
“Room Service,” with the
Marx Brothers, “Boy of the
j Streets” with Jackie Cooper,
“Boy Meets Girl” with James
Cagney, “Fast Company,” and
“Stage Coach Days.”
Sixty students received diplo
mas in the fifth graduating
class at West Georgia College.
A oneway bus ticket to At
lanta from Carrollton was one
dollar, and a round-trip ticket
was one dollar and eighty cents.
The first National Yearbook of
Zeta Sigma Pi honorary fra
ternity was published.
“Alice Sit-By-The Fire” was
presented by the dramatics club.
Aaron Buckalew was award
ed the prize for the student who
composed our Alma Mater. He
wrote both the words and the
music for the song.

p.m., in the Day Student Lounge
The Unitarian is Reverend Clif
ton G. Hoffman, who received
his A. B. degree from the Uni
versity of Michigan, and his B.D
degree from the Divinity School
of the University of Chicago.
Rev. Hoffman also did graduate
work in philosophy of religion at
both of the above schools. Rev.
Hoffman's work includes the pro
motion of the Unitarian Univer
j sahst extension in the southeast
for the Unitarian Universalist
Council.
The VRA cordially invites

Balfour Company commented
that the ring types decided upon,
due to the expense of changing
dyers, will have to lx* in effect
for at least five vears.
