their luck against a college power

Braves’ attack was Atlanta
Christian College. The game
was played in the West Georgia

BENCH STRENGTH
Coach Gary Holmes, upon see

tunity to break the 100 mark
with four minutes remaining,
pulled out his reserves and
placed his first unit in the game.
After two minutes of action,
the first team had raised the
score from 92 to 96. Coach
Holmes then put his second
team back in the game and they
did the job of jumping the 100

Gene Sanders and Charles
Shafe, though not racking up
many points, received praise
from Coach Holmes as doing, an
outstanding job in the playmak

Coach Howard Corder felt
like the Piedmont triumph will
help pull his team together and
give them a better shot at a con

Bill Shotwell, who has held a
three week position as the lead

Over \V. G. College Braves
The West Georgia Braves failed to “brave” the storm
of a last minute Tennessee Temple charge Tuesday
night and it cost them a victory. The visiting Tenn
esseans played the waiting game until opportunity pre
sented them with a 78 to 70 verdict over the Braves.
Ronald Underiener, anew face
in the Brave court picture, came
off the bench early in the first
half and demonstrated an out-
I standing scoring talent as he
ripped the bucket for 14 noints.
Underiener’s contribu
tion, when coupled with the 13
point shooting of Bill Shotw'ell,
paved the way for a 42 to 34
first half lead for the Braves.
The Braves of Coach Howard
Corder came on at the start of
the second half to initiate the fa
miliar old “open door policy”
which provided free entertain
ment for their guest under the
backboard.
Veterans of the Brave court
were granted an opportunity to
prove their strength one more
time before the conference sche
dule opened as the newcomers
took a seat on the bench.
This test revealed that a lot
of changes need to be made if
the Braves are to come out of
the current season alive.
Though the charity of the
Braves was apparent, they still
managed to hold a six to eight
point lead over their guest up
to the final two minutes of play.

Underiener finished second in

13 poins.
Leading the Piedmont charge
was Phil Garrett with 18 points,
followed by Dave Durrence with
10, and Armor and Coker with
11 each.
The Barves’ next outing is to
night when they travel to Berry
College to meet their second con
ference opponent in the young
season.
The Braves will return home
this Friday night to host Valdos
ta State in another important
conference affiar.
the name of Larry Miller stole
the show as he not only destroyed
the Brave lead, but also estab
lished an eight point marginal
win for the visitors.
MILLER LEADS
Miller and Edd Baker, both of
Tennessee Temple, were the
leading scorers in the Tuesday
night contest as they dropped in >
36 and 20 points respectively.
Underiener, though seeing lim
itd action in the game, was the
Braves’ leading scorer with 18
points.
Shotwell, who leads the con
ference in scoring, was held to
17 points, only four of which 1
came in the all important sec
