These requests will be sent in after graduation. Additionally, according to a news release prepared by Col onel Henry O. Smith, State Di rector of Selective Service, the student must provide the local board each year with evidence that they are continuing to pursue satisfactorily a full-time course of instruction at a college, uni versity or similar institution of learning. To be considered as “satisfac torily pursuing a full-time course of instruction,” an undergraduate student who is taking a four-year course should earn 25 percent of the credits required for his bac calaureate degree at the end of his firat academic year, fifty percent at the end of his second academic year, and seventy-five percent of his third academic year, accord ing to the release. PAGE THREE Mathis Article In June Issue “The Journal of American His tory” has published an article by Dr. Doyle Mathis, head of the Po litical Science Department, in its June issue. Dr. Mathis’ article, “Chisholm v. Georgia: Background and Set tlement,’’ is an account of the Chisholm v. Georgia case which involved a citizen of South Car olina who brought suit against the state of Georgia for payment of a debt. The state of Georgia had pur chased supplies for the Revolu tionary Army, but the payment failed to reach the South Carolina merchant, although the state turned the money over to some in dividual for payment. Chisholm won the case in the Supreme Court after it was appealed from a fed eral district court in Georgia. “The Journal of American His tory” is one of the leading schol arly publications in the field of history. Dr. Coe Dr. Robert M. Coe, Head of the Department of Fine Arts, recent ly attended a workshop for In structional Television in Music at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, New York.
