Win Three-ln-A-Row
BY JOHN TRAVIS
Three wins in a row and a
tournament championship won,
is how the West Georgia Braves
basketball team has burst open
their 1971-72 campaign. Three
consecutive victories enabled the
Braves to capture the Tennessee
Temple Thanksgiving Tour
nament in Chattanooga in their
initial appearance of the season
this past Thanksgiving weekend.
“I was overjoyed to win the
three tournament games thus
getting the season off on quite a
winning note” was the reaction of
head basketball Coach Roger
Kaiser. Kaiser added that “our
Braves’ defense was excellent
and we rebounded well, but our
offense sputtered at times and
left something to be desired.”
In the opening game,
Thanksgiving afternoon. West
Georgia chalked up a fairly easy
victory over Covenant College by
a 91-77 verdict. Next came the
semi-finals on last Friday night
against tough Montevallo
University (Ala.)
To win the Montevallo contest
the Braves had to struggle all the
way to snare a skin-of-the-teeth
74-72 decision. Montevallo led for
parts of the game, while the
Braves’ offense seemed to be
turned off. But the West
Georgians’ tiger-like defense
kept diem in the game until their
offense got cranked up.
