Track Team
Gets Home
In approximately three weeks
West Georgia College will have
one of the finest tracks in the
state of Georgia.
The West Georgia Track Team,
without its own track, has
compiled a very impressive
record, winning two GIAC titles
in the las. four years and two
NAIA district meet titles.
Without adequate facilities,
this is cuite a creditable record
for the thinclads from West
Georgia
Since West Georgia is very
limited in scholarship offerings,
it is the hope of the Athletic
Department that the new track
faciities will entice athletes to

Though the track will be
completed at the end of this
month, there will be no track
meets until next spring. Plans
have been made to host the GIAC
Conference Meet here May 10 and
11. Also, on Saturday, March 24,
the West Georgia College
Invitational Meet for all small
Southeast colleges willbe held
here
This week completion of this
long-awaited facility was thrown
off schedule once again
someone taking a ride in his car
on the nearly-finished track.
According to one ad
ministrator, who is directly in
volved in the construction of this
facility, the track will be com
pleted on schedule unless
someone else screws it up.

Mel Pinson, former
at East Rome High School, has
signed a track scholarship with
West Georgia College.
At East Rome Pinson held the
school record of 2:01.1 in the
880-yard run and placed second
in the region 7AA meet.
He participated in track all
four of his high school years and
lettered three years. He is the
brother of Frank Pinson who
ran at West Georgia from 1967-
71 and coached track at Man.
Chester High last year.
Georgia Head Coach
Grant Knox said that Pinson
will run cross-country in the fall
and then will concentrate on the
880 in the spring.
“Pinson comes to us with an
excellent recommendation
from his high school coach. I
expect that he will grow with
our program and mature into a
fine athlete, and I am sure he
will better the existing WGC
record in his event before he
graduates,” Knox said.

"IF SOMKONK DOESN’T SCREW IT UP AGAIN..."
Even though it will not be used for intercollegiate sports until next
spring when the West Georgia thinclads take the field to battle for the
GIAC championship, the new track will be ready by the end of this
month. That is. unless somebody drives his car or rides his horse on
the virgin turf.

EQUALTO CHALLENGE
We are uncertain as a nation
that we are equal to every
challenge. We have had to realize
that there is no law carved on
stone and handed down from the
mountain that proclaim
“America is number one.” Not
only are we uncertain of our role
in the world; sometimes we
wonder if we have a role at all.
Our President recently pointed
out: “The great civilizations of

WHAT ARE THESE MEN SMIUNG ABOUT?
Track Coach Grant Knox and East Rome speedster Mel Pinson
seem to be sharing a secret as they formerly completed the paper

TIME OF TESTING
John Kennedy once said,
“Befoie my term is ended, we
shall have to test anew whether a
nation organized and governed
such as ours can endure. The
outcome is by no means certain.”
The time of testing is at hand -
and, as the scriptures warn us,
“Except the Lord keepeth the
city, the gateman watcheth in
vain.”
