Union Programs Concerts, Coffee House, Movies
“The Union Program Council,
composed of seven committees
and a chairman, provides,
separate from academic areas,
types of programs which will
provide another avenue of
educational experience.” This is
the main goal of the council
according to its director, Mr.
Cedil Knotts. He also feels that
the success of the U.P.C. is
largely dependent on student
support.
Last year many activities were
available to the student body.
Movies were shown weekly.
“Mash,” “The Great White
Hope,” “The Owl and the
Pussycat,” and “Patton” were
featured last year. The coffee
house was opened once a week,
and many Atlanta based groups
were seen. In the nostalgic vein,
Saturday evening movie featured
such greats as W. C. Fields and
Laurel and Hardy. This was an
attempt to make weekends a
little more livable. Ten outdoor
concerts helped liven up the
school year. Bread, George
Carlin, Charlie Byrd and Denny
Brooks were featured en
tertainers at these concerts.
Spring Fling was a high-point
of Spring quarter. Everyone who
participated in the activities had
a great time and “Vince Vance
and the Vallients” topped a great
week off.
Looking forward to fall
quarter, many activities have
already been planned. Denny

The actual research and
writing done by this committee
was conducted by the two faculty
advisors because SGA

meeting.
When the new document was
presented for consideration the
proposed membership had been
cut nearly in half to a maximum
of ten (five students and five
faculty, one of whom served as
the chairman and voted only in
the case of ties). It was adopted

Outdoor concerts are only a few of the many "just-for-fun" activities the Union Program Council sponsors.
Brooks, who received a standing
ovation at his spring concert
here, will be back September 19,
1972 to do an outside concert from
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Out of a $25,500 budget, the
Entertainment Committee will
choose one or two groups for fall
quarter. Those being considered
are: “Yes,” “Uriah Heep,”
“Kenny Loggins and Jim
Messina,” “Bill Withers” and
overwhelmingly by the board.
The only Iwo dissenting votes
cast during the vote on the
constitution were by the SGA
representatives.
Some people who were for
merly on the Board were
somewhat dismayed to find
themselves deleted after the
shake-up. but no one other than
Waites had demanded his or her
vote returned.
Because the West Georgian is
the only student publication
operating on student activity fees
during the summer, it is the one
to be most immediately involved.
Several staff members began
worrying after receiving the

“Todd Rundgren.”
Fall movies look exciting, too.
Just two of a good selection are
“The Andromeda Strain,” and
“Bullit.”
So remember, for the Union
Program Council to be effective
the students must co-operate.
That means you, not the guy
sitting next to you in biology lab,
because you are necessary to the
success of the U.P.C.

These fears were set aside by
both Parkman and Stallings who
assured the editor that funds
