“The Cave Dwellers”
'Cove Dwellers' Come to Life
Slowly , but • • Look Out
BY KURT JOCOY
The Fine Arts Department
has finally done it -a play that
doesn”t give you a sore
derriere. “The Cave Dwellers”
is the first play that I’ve seen at
West Georgia College that is
well directed and the casting is
good all the way around.
The play is one that moves
forward from the opening to the
final moment. This is not to say
that there are parts that don't
drag on into a little boredom,
but they only last for a few
minutes and then the play in on
its way again
THE PLAYERS
Kenny Mirvis, the King, is
just ungodly. He plays the part
of an old stage actor who is
down and out. He plays the part
so well that you really fed he is
down and out. Mr. Mirvis is the
perfect person for the part he
plays. He makes you laugh, and
he makes you feel a tear.
Debra Tibbetts, the Queen, is
also vary well cast. She plays
the part of an old actress who no
longer is on the stage like the
King. Today’s old bitty is
tomorrow’s Fine Arts
Department’s best actress that

Stephen Voinche, Gorky, ind
Brian Norman, the Father,
helped to pick up speed of
the play. Gorky is a big lovable
bear, and the Father is his
trainer. Upon their entrance the
audience is taken by surprise
not to mention the poor cave
dwellers.
Kerry Goddard, the Duke, is
excellent in his part of a fallen
boxer. The Duke dreams of the
things he was and sees what he
is today.
Linda Weatherford, the Girl,
is good, yet she needs more
exposure to help her acting.
Ms. Weatherford needs to
project her voice a little
stronger, but this might come
with more acting on stage.
Rob Jones and Edgar Tirado
play two good old hard-hats.
Rob Jones brings a human
feeling into the play by his short
but very moving talk to the
Queen about not being able to
cry. Edgar Tirado plays the
part of a comedy relief, to which
he is very good at doing. Rob
Jones sends him out to teU
everyone to be sick Friday to
Monday and stops him to give
THE WEST GEORGIAN
more messages. Mr. Tirado
keeps trying to leave and finally
makes his humourous exit with
a facial expression that is one
of total bewilderment at his
bosses decision to let the cave
dwellers stay until Monday in
the old theater.
Hie lighting and sound effects
are very good for the small
stage that is used. Hie lighting
in particular is done quite weU.
In the first act, one is sent on a
fantasy trip by the actors that
wouldn’t have come off without
the good lighting system.
The sound effects are
adequate but not of the best
possible quality. One thing that
comes to mind is the sound used
for the demolition of the old
buildings; if they are real, it is
hard to believe.
All considered, the total play
is very enjoyable and well
worth your time to go see.
My pen clicks in and my
derriere doesn’t itch. Once
again to Robert Matthews and
company: its about time. The
last performance is tonight at 8
p.m. on the third floor of the
Humanities building.
