Favored In
Basketball
Kappa Sigma, sporting a six
and zip record, is favored to take
the summer basketball playoffs
which start Monday night at 9
p.m. There will be four teams in
the playoffs, with the other three
bang the Black Students Alliance
(5-1), Tau Kappa Epsilon (4-2),
and Pi Kappa Alpha (3-3). The
faculty finished with a 2 and 4
record, and Alpha Tau Omega
with a 1 and 5 record. Sigma Nu
did not field a team this summer
so their forfeits did not count as
wins, as earlier reported.
On Monday at 9 p.m., BSA and
the TKE’s will play, followed by
Kappa Sigma against the Pikes
at 10 p.m. The winners will play
Tuesday night at 9 for the
championship.

Pikes Beat Back Softball Challengers
Pi Kappa Alpha swept two
games in a row from Alpha Tau
Omega 9-6 and 14-3, and Kappa
Sigma rolled Sigma Nu 6-1 and 16-
5 to meet this week in the finals of
the summer softball playoffs.
In the first game of the final
two out of three playoffs, the
Pikes edged the Kappa Sigs 16-14.
Wednesday in the second game,
the Kappa Sig bats exploded in
the bottom of the third inning for
ten runs, about five of these runs
resulting from Pike errors. After
five innings Kappa Sigma held a
13-2 lead, so that ended the
second game. Since the second
game was so short, both teams
decided to go ahead and play the
rubber game then.
In the top of the first inning, the
Pikes came up with one run, but
Kappa Sigma retaliated with
three in the bottom of the first.
Both teams went scoreless in the
second inning, but the third in
ning saw the Pikes pick up six
runs to Kappa Sigs one. After
that it was all down hill for the
Pikes. They scored one in the
fourth, three in the fifth , and one
more in the seventh, while
holding the Kappa Sigs to no runs
in the last four innings. The final
score was Pike 12, Kappa Sig 4.
