The welcome mats are out all over town and the WEST GEORGIAN
is no exception. This summer seemed to fly by and now it’s time
to start classes, fraternity meetings, Wednesday night hump parties,
and intramurals again.
year, intramural competition boomed and this year is expected
to show even more growth. For new students entering West Georgia
College, there is a wide variety of activities to choose from. Included
in the intramural program at WGC are flag football, basketball,
swimming, softball, weight lifting, track, and this year wrestling may
be added. The competition last year was keen.
Students should not get the impression that they have to be in a
fraternity or a sorority in order to participate. Intramural competition
is divided into two leagues, independent and fraternity. For overall
championship, the independent teams prevailed last year. If you don’t
want to play, then come out and watch the exciting competition.
West Georgia College also has intercollegiate athletics. The
basketball, track, and baseball teams all have respectable records
and hold their own with all the other small colleges in the state. The
most impressive of the three has to be the basketball team.
Many new students are apprehensive about participating because
they are new on campus. If this is your first quarter on Campus, don’t
shy away from being active. Participating is a quick and easy way to
meet people and form new friendships.
