Hilarious Show
The Lampoon Hits The Air Waves
A REVIEW
BY ROBBY SMITH
“Lampoon: Broad satire,
especially satire intended as
personal ridicule.” This is how
the American Heritage Die
tionary defines a lampoon. And
if the authors of the book were
thinking of the “National
Lampoon” when they offered
their description of the word,
they couldn’t have been more
correct.
The “National Lampoon”, a
spin-off of the Harvard Lam
poon magazine, now has a spin
off of its own, the National
Lampoon Radio Hour. And like
the original publication, the
radio show is disgusting, ob
scene, perverted, gross, and
most of all, outrageously funny.
WBTR-FM in Carrollton
carries the broadcast every
Sunday night at 9:30. making it
the first station in this area to
present the program.
As for the show, it is very well
done. Technical work is out

standing and the presentation of
the material is first class work.
As for the material in the
show, you would have to hear it
to believe it.
For example, take this farce
of a newscast. “Doctors in San
Clemente have reported a break
out of phlebitis in the southern
California town,” the an
nouncer drones. “According to
medical officials, the symptoms
of the malady are a drooping of
the jaws, sweating of the upper
lip, abrupt raising of the arms,
and an early retirement.”
Or, take the story of the
hitchhiker who got kicked in the
head by a member of Hell’s
Angels while he was doing 19
hits of orange sunshine. No
wonder the poor guy was out

“1 got tickets to the Janis

“Didn’t you know, Janis is

“Dead? When did she die?”
“About five years ago.”
“Wow. Well, at least I can still

“He’s dead too. He died about

The needs we seek
are hard to come by
Years of wrong habit are surely not easily broken,
You may take me as a teacher
but you would not be curious
unless the thoughts were first within you.
so know me not as a teacher
But as a sharer.
And as I speak
You share with me
For all learning is an eternal drawing of lives,
Just as you do not understand
I do not understand;
Know this
And know too, the lesson is unending
As it is
For every one person
There is knowledge in that one understanding

Christian Folk Singer
Gives Cozy Corner Show
Paul Thorsen, wanting to tell
students through his songs how
a person can find “a meaning
and purpose in Jesus Christ”,
came to the Cozy Corner for a
concert, Oct. 23.
Thorsen said that he accepted
Christ six years ago when he
attended a concert by a
Christian rock group. “I was
very impressed with their
music," the singer said, “but
more impressed with their
lives. I saw in them something I
wanted and that was the love of
God.”
After being a member of a
singing group, “The Great
Commission Company” for a
year, he decided to branch out
on his own as part of the
Campus Crusade for Christ
Program.
In his three years as a solo
artist, Thorsen has performed
for over 25,000 students in the
United States and has given
concerts in the South Pacific

area as well. He lives in Dallas.
Texas, and often returns there
for concert engagements.
Through his songs of personal
experience, Thorsen hopes to
touch people on a one-to-one
