Practice Is A Year Round Event
BY DONNIE HUTCHINS
The baseball season is still far
away but practice is almost
year-round for Coach Archie
White’s players. The practice
sessions are held daily and so
far Coach White seems pleased.
There are many new faces
this year and hard and deter
mined efforts are being shown
daily. Coach White labels some
of this years players as stars
and he has high praises for
many.
Bob Giddens, a transfer
student from South Georgia, is
according to Coach White,
“someone I’ve needed behind
the plate for years.”

The Indies managed to surge
onward by defeating F.I.U. 15-

rolled around Mississippi

door on the strong Bravette
team by the scores 15-2, 14-16

however, as the Ladies received
the sportsmanship award for

Next weekend brings on the
biggest event this season for the

Competing in this tourney will

Douglasville. Kay Davis, a
newcomer, will also be seeing
some action according to Coach
White.

and strong batsmen,” said
Coach White.

Soccer Club Drops
Third Straight Game
The soccer club extended it’s
losing streak to three games by
dropping a four to three
decision to Columbus College
Sunday afternoon on the
Cougars field
The Braves actually out
played Columbus but the
Cougars got the lucky breaks.
The score was tied at one all at
the half and looked as though it
would be a defensive battle, but
the teams exploded for five
goals in the exciting second
half.
Bruce Fechnay led the of
fensive effort of the Braves by
scoring all three goals. One
came in a penalty kick and
another on a corner kick which
found it’s way into the goal
untouched.
West Georgia is still looking
for a capable goalie to handle
that all important position.
Mike Pindleton made his first
start ever at goal and his
inexperience showed. Three of
Columbus’ four goals came on
“cheap” shots that most likely
would have been stopped by a
seasoned goalie. The second
goal went right through Pin
dleton s legs and the third.

role in the teams success, said
Coach White.
With much being done now
and the anticipation of the
opening game in March, the
team is full of hopes for a good
season. The team remains
strong and their winning
tradition will be shown again
this year. “The players and

they will prove it when the
season starts,” said one of
Coach White’s assistants.
which tied the game, went in
without him even attempting to
block it. The fourth Columbus
goal came on a throw in when he
dropped the ball and it was
easily papped in by a Cougar
player.
The Columbus players must
have felt fortunate in winning as
one team member expressed
his opinion, “Every position on
their team except goalie had a
better man than ours,” he said.
Even the referee was frank in
saying West Georgia outplayed
Columbus but the Cougars were
very lucky in com.ng up with
some unusual scores off the
Brave goalie.
