must be used for these func
tions.
Owen also pointed out that the
landscaping around the
building, done by the campus
landscaping and grounds
department, has only recently
been completed. Drainage,
shaping of the land, and plan
ting grass were all done by
college personnel.
Work on the parking lot at the
structure is underway.
According to William Russell,
plant engineer, the first stages
of the lot. such as grading and
preparing for paving, are being
completed by the college staff.
“The actual paving, which will
be done by the State Highway
Department, will be completed
at a later date,” Russell said.
He also said the new lot will
eventually provide parking not
only for Z-6, but also for other
buildings on the west side of the
campus.
The lot provides an advantage
that the present student center
does not have, in that parking
near the student center is
restricted to meters with no
student parking lot located by
the building. “The lot at Z-6
should provide ample parking
with room for later expansion,”
Owen said.
Construction of the building
was done by Peter Norris and
Morris Hall of Atlanta. “They
have built the student center at
Georgia Southwestern College
in Americus, are at work on the
ecology building at the

University of Georgia, and have
built high schools in the Atlanta
area,” Owen said.
According to Owen, the main
dining hall in Z-6, already
furnished, seats 740, with two
serving lines for regular meals
and one line for snacks.
In contrast to the present
dining hall, with its long rows of
tables, Z-6 has many smaller
restaurant-type tables seating
two. four, and six. Chairs used
are the type which can be easily
stacked for storage, thus
providing a large open area for
social functions.
A balcony along three sides of
the building with access
through sliding glass doors
provides an area for tables and
chairs during good weather.
Also upstairs off the main
dining area is a private dining
room which seats 104. “This
area could be used for small
groups, faculty, conferences, or
meetings,” Owen said.
Downstairs is a rathskeller
designed to seat 200 people at
round tables with captains
chairs This area has a kitchen
which could be used at social
functions or as a snack bar. The
rathskeller also has a portable
folding stage.
the kitchen is completely
equipped and ready for use with
the exception of dishes which
will be moved from the present
dining facility. Equipment
includes modem mixers, up-to
date ovens, refrigerators, dish
washer, carts, meat choppers.
Ware’s Weekend

from which one might con
template the world, the
universe and the validity of the
core curriculum A stroll along
the lake in “Love Valley “gives
one a sense of closeness to
nature, especially if you do net
watch where you’re stepping.
The slime rests around the edge
of the lake as a living testimony
to what can be accomplished
through man’s joint efforts with
nature. One can also observe,
while slowly strolling, lots of
beer cans, newspapers, and
candy wrappers along the
banks of the lake. Simple ar
tifacts left by those who have
visited before, left with the idea
that future generations might
be able to behold their labors.
What more could one ask?
Trying to decide where to eat
is also a favorite challenge of
those brave souls who stay. The
variety of food here is limitless,
from under-cooked hamburgers
to milk shakes made from
powdered milk. Finding a place
to eat also offers one an ex-
shcers, grinders, and a laundry
Several small refrigerators
with doors on both ends
illustrate the functional aspects
of this building in that food can
be placed in the refrigerator
from the kitchen and removed
from the serving area.
Both upstairs and downstairs
at the front of Z-6 are student
lounge areas covered with
bright carpet. These areas
contain a fireplace with gas
logs. In front of the downstairs
fireplace is a sunken floor.
According to Owen, the modern
furniture in the lounge area is
designed to be functional and
attractive as well as com
fortable. This furniture includes
several game tables. The
building also has a system
which provides music to all
parts of the building including
the serving area.

exercise your right to refuse,
your right to complain, and
your right to be thrown out of
the establishment after exer
cising your rights. Such
supreme bliss is this.
Need I continue? It would be
obvious, even to the casual
observer, that there are
numerous activities for the
weekend lodger. I did not even
mention movies, beer
gusselling, screaming in the
dorms, seeing how many times
you can flush the toilet in a
given amount of time, trying to
figure out what’s going to be in
Z-6, rapidly turning the
television dial, calling yourself
on the phone and listening to the
busy signal, and many, many,
more. And even on occasion the
college actually plans
something for the weekend.
So my fellow students cast
down your suitcases and join
the ranks of other insane
students and spend a glorious
weekend on campus. Try it,
you'll like it.
