Kaiser Unsure About Team
Three weeks of preseason
practice have gone by and the
West Georgia College
basketball coaches are still
unable to predict what kind of
team the Braves will floor this
season.
"We have been up and down,
inconsistent,” head coach
Koger Kaiser explained, ‘‘good
one day and not-so-good the
next, but that is to be expected
of any team during preseason
practice. I sometimes wonder if
we are really as good as we look

The West Georgia College
Invitational Tournament is
underway today. Among the
wide field of contestants
competing for the cham
pionship title are three con

University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga, Florida State
University and West Georgia
College. Also competing will be
Mississippi University for
Women who thus far is the only
team to hand the Heroes a
match loss.

Intrasquad
Match-Up
West Georgia students will
have an opportunity to see what
their 1974-75 Braves basketball
team will be like this season
when the returning veterans go
against the new recruits in
Tuesday night’s Red and Blue
Intrasquad Game at 7:30 in the
HPE Fieldhouse.
Admission is 50 cents for
students and SI.OO for adults;
with proceeds going to the
Braves cheerleaders, pep
squad, and the local mental
health association.
If past Red and Blue games
are any indication, then Mon
day night’s contest should be an
exciting, high-scoring affair.
For the past two years, the
recruits have upset the veterans
during the last minutes of play.
The intrasquad match should
also be an interesting matchup
between the team’s starting
guards, Dave Edmonds, the
only returning starter from last
season’s national championship
squad, and newcomer Tony
Stroud. Billed by many as the
finest set of guards in the state,
the duo has already received
All-American recognition in a

publication.
on some days, and then hope
that we are not as bad on
others.”
West Georgia’s travel roster
has been cut to 11 players, and
the coaches emphasized the
word "players.” Each member
of the varsity squad is expected
tc see a great deal of action this
season.
"Our depth this year should
be the best that the college has
ever had,” Kaiser noted, "we
should be able to go to our bench
more than in the past and be
pretty secure in doing it.”
will be played at 7:30 p.m.
Friday. Play will continue
through Saturday morning and
the playoffs will commence at
noon Saturday. The title will be
decided at 5 p.m. as the
championship game takes
place.
The A and B squads of the
Bravetts volleyball team hosted
the University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga Oct. 31. The B
squad dropped two straight, 15-
17 and 2-15, but the A squad
helped redeem the team by
coming from behind and taking
the last three of five games by
the scores of 10-15, 13-15, 15-3,
15-10, and 15-5.
The squads traveled to
Alabama to meet Auburn in a
one nighter on Nov. 1 and their
results remained pretty much
the same as the night before.
The B squad dropped two
games to the Tigerettes, 6-15
and 7-15, while the A squad won
the best of five by the scores of
11-15, 15-2, 15-3 and 15-7.

Thus far, the lack of overall
team speed and "getting a few
of our players in physical
shape” have been the chief
concerns of coaches Kaiser and
Jerry Reynolds. The 1974-75
Braves are not expected to be
nearly as quick as last season’s
team, which used its speed to
force turnovers, fast-break, and
demoralize its opponents, and
the conditioning of a few of the
players has certainly not helped
in this area of the squad's game.
"We are big and hit the
boards well and certainly
should not be intimidated under
the basket by anybody,”
Reynolds said, “and if we can
get our running game going, we
should be in fine shape for a
tough schedule.”
Reynolds noted that on a few
occasions during preseason
scrimmages the first five have
shown flashes of team play that
had him reminiscing of last
season.
"On two occasions we ran
extremely well, shot well, hit
the boards tough, and played
great floor defense,” he said,
"In fact, I don’t remember
last year’s team ever looking
better in a full scrimmage.”
However, the inconsistency
has caused the WGC coaches to
refrain from too much op
timism. The lack of playing
experience as a unit is evident
and is expected to be one of the
Braves weaknesses, especially
in the early season games.
Senior guard and team
captain Dave Edmonds has
graded out as the top performer
in the preseason scrimmages
thus far.

Smilin Dave
Dave Edmonds Star
Of The Braves Show
BY DONNIE HUTCHINS
Dave Edmonds of the Braves
Basketball team is a highly
talented athlete. Dave has
enthused fans, coaches, and pro
scouts throughout his career.
Last year Dave played in the
shadows of Foots Walker and
Tom Turner but he was never
overlooked by opponents.
Dave was born in New York
City and lived in the Queens
district of the city. He attended
William Cullen Bryant High
School and there he shined on
the court. He was a three year
regular and over the course of
those three years he averaged
22 points a game and 13
rebounds. It must have been
good enough because Edmonds
was elected to All-City, All-
State and All American teams
in his senior year. He also took
his team in the City League
finals his senior year. This may
not seem like much to some but
when you consider the size of
New York City you might can

appreciate this more. Adding to
this, Dave once had a 37 point
game which is his high so far in
his career.
After graduation from high
school, Dave chose Vincennes
Junior College in Indiana. In his
freshman year he played on the
National Championship team.
While at Vincennes for two
years Edmonds averaged 14
points a game and eight
rebounds.
The next stop for Smilin*
Dave was Georgia. His choice
wasn’t easy though. Dave was
sought after by some 25 to 30
schools across the nation. West
Georgia fans have shown that
they are glad Dave chose the
Braves squad. Last year he
responded beautifully con
tributing very much to the
National Championship team.
He averaged 13 points a game
and six rebounds. Without a
doubt, Dave was the teams
best defensive player. The 22
year old guard won honors on
the NAIA Tournament team in
Kansas City. He was fortunate
to win this honor because only
two people were chosen that
were not seniors.
Dave is a senior this year and
everyone who is a fan of the
Braves will hate to see the
recreation major leave. His
progress will not end here
though, Dave is already being
sought after by pro teams. In
the latest edition of Street and
Smiths Basketball Yearbook,
Dave was picked on the All-
American team. According to
Coach Jerry Reynolds and
others this magazine is the best
basketball magazine in the
country.
Dave Edmonds is a supreme
basketball player. He has the
backing of his teammates as
they unanimously voted him the
captain of this years’ team.
West Georgia will miss last
years stars and will remember
that National Championship
team but this year is another
year and at the head of the
Braves this year is Smilin'Dave
Edmonds. West Georgia will
remember him for a long time
too.
