I also date occasionally and I’m
not afraid of rejection. If a guy
should run from me now, I
would feel he had done me a
favor I wouldn’t want to waste
my time getting to know him.
Another thing I like to do is
write poetry. My poems are
little parts of me. I also keep a
diary, embroider sketch, paint,
and listen to music. I like
Barbra Streisand. She has a
good sense of humor and talent.
There's a white oak just
outside my window and I call it
my tree. It doesn’t move, so that
means it’s not going anywhere.
It’s nice to know that. Everyone
should have something to feel
secure with and a place to
meditate. I talk to it a lot and
it’s strange, but at night, with
all the other trees around, that’s
the only tree the light shines on.
I’ve often thought that if I
could be anything other than
myself, I would be a tree.
Now that I feel that I know
myself and more about where I
am going, I don’t go home much
anymore. It isn’t because I
don’t like my family. I do. I’m
just content where I am most of
the time. My mother and I have
a very close relationship. She’s
my best friend and the most
understanding person I know
Land Use Seminar

An all-day land use seminar

When I call her, she has this line
she always hands me. She says,
“Don’t hand me a soap opera "
Occasionally my family visits
me and brings me what we
jokingly refer to as a “care
package, with all kind of
“goodies.” We’re a close
family; there are nine of us.
I have plans for the future.
I’m not a “do-gooder.” I just
like action! That’s why I have
applied for ACTION. My ap
plication is now under con
sideration and if it works out, I
hope to go to Africa, South
America or Russia a couple of
years from now. This may
sound conceited, but I feel that
if I could share one-fourth of my
attitude about life with them
situation might be in West
Georgia if it continues to grow
as expected.
David Norman, social
planner of the Atlanta Planning
Commission will speak on the
topic, “Planning and People;
The Future.”
Carrollton mayor Charles
Lumpkin will discuss the legal
ind civic implications of major
land use changes in the region.
A number of other speakers
will discuss other possible
ramifications of land use in the
West Georgia area.
Anyone wishing to register for
the session or desiring ad

Continuing Education at the

that it might help them make it
too. If I can help myself, maybe
I can help somebody else.
Some day I would also fike to
write children’s books and do
my own illustrations. Perhaps
that’s because I’ve never grown
up and I’m on their level!
Oh yes, some people ask me if
I believe in God now. I do. but I
also believe in myself. I think
sometimes God is advertised
and He really doesn’t need to
be. I believe that when a person
finds himself, he also finds God
It's for sure I don’t need the
kind of religion some people
have, certainly not the kind that
“led” someone to say to me as I
was waking up from surgery,
“Well, Jan, if it’s God’s will
you’ll live; if it’s not, we 11...”
That kind of pessimism was not
exactly what I needed to hear. It
didn’t have a “cheering” affect,
but it did give me something to
laugh about. As I looked around,
still drowsy, and saw all the
white uniforms, I looked for St.
Peter to see if I had made it. For
a moment I thought I had
I live with hope, but it isn’t
always easy to do. A poster in
my room says it better than I. It
reads:
“Look to this day for it is
life.”
