The bookstore also sells popular paperbacks, school
supplies, t-shirts and over-priced records. It is also the place
to go to recover lost money from vending machines.
As an alternative to eating at Z-6 or McDonald's the snack
bar offers good, reasonably priced food and a convenient
location.
Situated on the main floor, it is the place many students go
before or after class to drink coffee and socialize.
Right now, the gameroom, on the ground floor, is in rather
dilapidated condition. The pinball machines have been
recalled because they didn’t make enough money to make it
worth the company’s time and no new contract has been
finalized as of yet.
The pool tables are often off balance and the cues have the
habit of being warped. However, as Mark Twain said, con
ditions such as this can make the game more interesting and
skillful Take your pick.
Along with the ping-pong tables, pool is relatively cheap,
costing only a cent a minute, 25 cents minimum. Foosball is
25 cents as are the pinball machines when in season. A
student ID is needed to play pool and ping-pong.
In the lobby on the main floor is the TV room which
features a television set that often boasts green people, even
when Star Trek is not on. Still it is a comfortable place to
watch television, especially at night when you don’t have to
settle for someone else’s soap opera or football game.
The student activities office is the center of such campus
activities as concerts, Greeks and Homecoming. Located
across from the Post Office, it is also a good place to get
information.
Headed up by Mel Caraway, student activities director, the
office is, in practice in charge of entertainment on campus.
Shows by Mother’s Finest, Wild Cherry and Earl Scruggs
highlighted the past year but the clear emphasis is on up and
rising performers such as Mike Williams, Gove and Erin
Isaacs. While their names are obscure, their performances
were usually of good quality.
On the ground floor, across from the gameroom, is the
intramurals office. West Georgia has a fairly good program
ranging from football, basketball and tennis to horseshoes
and volleyball among others. Scores, dates for signing up and
events are posted on the intramural scoreboard by the office.
Down the hall from intramurals are the Chieftain and West
Georgian offices respectively. Both publications are open to
all students.
