I want to get students more interested in their student government. Under my leadership, I believe this can be accomplished.'’ Cameillia Johnson is seeking her second term as a SGA Senator this coming election. A political science major from Forsyth, she has been active during the past year with the SGA and Student League Listed recently in the Who’s Who Among American College Students, her hobbies include softball, tennis, and track. She is a member the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In her re-election bid, Johnson’s campaign platform recalls her experience. “Working for SGA has been really great; however, 1 feel that it takes more than one year of experience to get the major goals of the previous year carried out. I feel that next year’s senate will run a lot smoother if it has old ex perience." Michael Kay, from Dearing, Georgia, is a political science major On campus activities for the senate candidate are mem berships in the College Planning Board, Residence Hall Association, and the chairmanship of movie selection committee. Kay reports of his platform,“l am running for senator in hope of a more cooperative system between the different functions of campus life. Currently the Vice President of the BSA, his hobbies include softball, basketball, and football. Of his senatorial candidacy, Langston says he wants “to put more power in the hands of the SGA. I feel that new laws should be instituted.’’ Mitchell Lillard, Jr. is from LaFayette, Georgia, and majoring in geology. The candidate’s hob bies include camping, tennis, horseback riding, and softball, while his campus activity includes the college’s Geology Gub. "I will push for greater teacher student cooperation on campus,’’ says Lillard, “along with a football program, and a SGA that is responsive to the needs of the students. Vernon Mullins wants to become anew SGA senator A biology major from Rutledge, Georgia, he is a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and four wheeling. On his bid for election, Mullins reports, “The present do-nothing SGA Senate needs a dynamic down home country boy who realizes the needs of the common WGC student. For this reason, I have decided to run.” Laurie Paul is a political science major from Jonesboro. Her hob bies are camping, geology, and reading science fiction. On campus she is a resident assistant in Cobb Hall, Chairperson of the College Program Board, and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta sorority. In her campaign to be an elected official, Paul is seeking anew unity on campus. She comments, “Student strength is a major part of campus spirit and unity. This past year, due to controversy and misunderstandings, our SGA has not been very strong. Asa senator, I would devote my time to working with the SGA and other campus organizations to unify our college. Much can be accomplished when hard workers are elected to office, and I am that kind of worker.” Karen Sacandy of nearby Temple is a political science major. A debater and college radio station DJ, her interests also in clude photography, reading, and driving. Asa candidate, Sacandy states that “academics would be my first priority. Work toward ac creditation of our schools would certainly be a positive step, with the establishment of a football program being of a lower priority. 1 realize that not supporting a WGC football team may not be the moat popular position, however, a rational determination of priorities is necessary .Let’s face it, WGC isn't as strong academically as it could or should be.” Kirk Shepard is a biology major from Trenton, Georgia. NEW BTUDENT BULLETIN BOARD Anew student bulletin board is located in the library on the main floor next to the pamphlet file. Student* are requested to keep the hobby. He is also a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. In speaking of his campaign platform, Shepard reports, ‘‘l would like to see better representation of the students' money, more activities, and this school become an active weekend college.” Allan Keith Smith will also be vying for votes in his bid to be elected a senator. A political science major, he is from Soperton, Georgia. While a political newcomer on this campus, he was a former President of the Men’s Council at Georgia Southern College. Among his interests are traveling and flying, along with being a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve. “The government of West Georgia College needs to be returned to those who are the recipients of its actions...the students," says candidate Smith, “and I pledge to consolidate my in terest* to all involved to achieve this goal.” Terri Townley is presently pursuing a masters degree in nursing. She is from Carrollton, and enjoys her spare time by water skiing, watching old movies, and playing softball On campus she is a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Of her candidacy, Townley reports, “I very much support having a football team because of the benefits that will arise from it, including greater school spirit and more financial revenues. I will support having more school ac tivities throughout the academic year, and believe that present activity fees are not being used properly to benefit the entire student population.” Ed Thilenius, Jr. is a history major from Newnan, and enjoys being active in sports. “I will do my best,” says Thilenius the senatorial candidate, “to increase student activities, to encourage students to stay over the weekends, and I will also try to increase the voice of the people.” Lane Zbar’s name will be the last one to appear on the May 13th ballot in the SGA senate race. A biology major, she is from Dalton A member of Delta Omega Chi and Alpha Lambda Delta, her hobbies include hiking and backpacking, and playing tennis Speaking of her candidacy, Zbar states, "I would like to see the students of WGC more involved in SGA. This could be done through more frequent surveys and organized student-faculty discussions.
