He attributes the rising number however, to the fact that students are applying earlier this year, West Georgia's improving academic reputa tion, the football program, and the lower tuition costs at West Georgia as compared to larger institutions and private colleges in the state. In what Bickers described as “by far the most successful Visitation Day on the West Georgia College campus,’’ an estimated 1500-1700 prospective students and their parents toured the college and met with its faculty, staff and students. Enrolled students at West Georgia conducted tours of the campus and its facilities, while a welcome session with President Maurice TownsentJ, Vice President John Lewis, University System Hegent Lamar Plunkett, and Student Government Association Vice President David Blackwell was also on the agenda for the visitors. Booths set up in the gym enabled the prospective students to meet with student leaders from clubs, publica tions, Greek societies and other organizations. "I would like to thank all the faculty, staff and especially the students who participated in the Visitation Day program. Without the students we wouldn’t have been so successful,” Bickers said.
