FRATERN AL ORGANIZATIONS
(THE "GREEKS”)
All the fraternities and sororities are
governed by the Interfratemity Coun
cil. the Panhellenic Council, or the
Black (ireek Council. Each one stresses
brotherhood, scholarship and unity.
Hush is held usually the first two

The members of each organization
have much pride in their fraternity. It
is a decision made for the remainder of
their lives. It is not just an organization
to join, it is a commitment to certain
ethical standards
IFC FRATERNITIES
1 Alpha Tau Omega I
Alpha Tau Omega is led by President
Ricky Parson and has as its advisors
l)r Robert,England ißiology t and Dr.
Kenneth Bunting. The fraternity em
phasizes athletics, social life and
scholarship Highlights of the year in
clude spring and fall eampouts, Euau,
Ski Weekend, and the annual Halloween
Party The AT lodge us located on lx>v

Chi Phi emphasizes leadership and
unity, athletics, scholarship and in
‘Sink or Swim' Tutoring Bails
Out Floundering Students
It during the course ol the quarter
you find yourself floundering in your
studies, you may want to visit the Stu
dent Development Center and enroll in
the SOS ("sink or swim i Tutoring
program The program is free to all
West Georgia students and tutoring is
offered for all core subjects
The program usually employs three
tutors, one in English, one in math and
the third in social sciences area. The
program is fully staffed year round
Tutors are usually juniors, seniors
and graduate students and some are
former teachers and education majors.
Usually these people have tutored
before Dr Jerry Hall goes over how to
tutor with all new tutors and makes
himself available for questions and pro
blems which evolve during their work
W.G.C. Fine Arts presents an
OPEN HOUSE!
Thursday Sept. 24 at 8:00. This open house
will serve to introduce the idea of a theater
company here at West Georgia.

Please come, refreshments will be served 3rd floor, studio
theater Humanities Bldg. Audition for this company will be
held Sept. 28-Oct. 2 at the Studio Theater.

James Baum is the adviser. Their
house is a white colonial located on
Maple Street just across from the cam
pus.
(Kappa Sigma I
Kappa Sigma has as its president
Chet Chandler and as its adviser Dr.
Naomi Springfield (Accounting). They
are an association of friends which
stresses leadership, scholarship and
athletics. Three major functions of the
year include Alumni Football Weekend,
Homecoming Weekend, and Luau
Weekend Their house is located three
miles west of the campus on 1-owom
Road.
(PI Kappa Alpha I
Pi Kappa Alpha is led by President
Billy Chandler and adviser Mark
Taylor (Admissions). They stress com
petition in athletics and scholarship.
Their house is located on Highway 27
north of Carrollton.
(Sigma Nu)
Sigma Nu was founded on the basis of
love, truth and honor They emphasize
leadership in campus activities and
scholarship Their president is Bob
Garrett and their adviser is Bill Carter.
The Sigma Nu house is located on
Maple Street across from the Maple
Street Mansion.
PANHELLENIC SORORITIES

The president is I Jsa Nodal and the
adviser is Nancy Cook. They are
located on 3-C of Boykin Hall 1832-9534).
Their colors are Silver, Blue, and Gold.
Their symbol is the pansy. The
nickname isTri-Delt
I Alpha Gamma Delta)
The president is Stacey Sides and the
adviser is Mrs. Mary Jean Adams.
They are located in 1-A of Boykin Hall
w ith students.
Hall also offers a short course on test
taking methods and the Student
IX-velopment Center has a computer
which helps students work on study
skills
Students who want to be tutored
should come by the Development
Center and fill out a form with such in
formation as what subject-area help is
needed in and available time When
their application has been processed
the student is given an appointment or a
tutor contacts him. Thirty-minute or
one-hour sessions are scheduled for
students.

and their symbol is the owl. Nickname -

(Phi Mu)
The president is Marty Donahue and
the adviser is Virginia Cherry. They
are located on 2-C of Boykin Hall (832-
9542). Their colors are Rose and White
and their symbol is the Ladybug.
Nickname - Phi Mu.
(Kappa Delta)
President is Nancy Gotham and the
Adviser is Lisa Ixxlbetter. They are
located on 1-C of Boykin (832-9549). Col
ors - Emerald green, Pearl White. Sym
bol - butterfly. Nickname - KD.
BLACK GREEK COUNCIL
Fraternities
Kappa Alpha Psi
President is Frankie langston and
adviser is Dr. O. B. Yates. Their pur
pose is to provide social and service ac
tivities for the campus and community.
Colors - Red and White. P.O. Box 10048.
Omega Psi Phi
President is Sam Crenshaw and ad
viser is Bobby Vaughn, Box 10028, Col
ors - Purple and Gold.
Alpha Phi Alpha
President - Dennis Taylor; adviser is
Dr. David Dugan. Purpose - to en
courage brotherhood, academic
achievement and social development.
Symbol - Sphinx. Colors - Black and

Alpha Kappa Alpha
The president is Wanda F’ranklin.
They are located on 3-A of Boykin Hall.
Colors - Pink and Green. Symbol - Ivy
They stress high ethical and
scholastic standards.
Delta Sigma Theta

10025. Their purpose is both educational
and cultural. Colors - Red and White.

NON-FTIATERNAL ORGANIZATIONS
Baptist Student Union (BSU)
The Baptist Student Union is an
organization which provides college
students with an opportunity for Chris
tian growth and service through a
balanced program of worship,
fellowship, and outreach.
BSU is sponsored by the Georgia Bap
tist Convention and supported by local
Baptist churches. Student officers led
by a full-time campus minister assume
responsibility for its life and work.
All students, regardless of denomina
tion, are invited to become involved in
BSU. There are no membership re
quirements or dues. For further infor

Black Student Alliance
The idea for a cultural resource
center, designed for the student body at
large, was born in January, 1969. This
existing center has played a role in
aiding all students at West Georgia.
The purpose of the Black Student
Alliance is to promote the dignity of
black people, to increase understanding
of black culture, exchange ideas
between black, white and foreign
students; to aid in resolution of pro
blems which have resulted from racial
discrimination and prejudice; to spon
sor programs, seminars, workshops
and other cultural and educational ac
tivities; to provide a library area which
houses books, records, tapes,
periodicals, slides, films and other
educational materials related to
minority studies; and to promote the in
terest of West Georgia College.

The Black Student Alliance com
prises several organized groups and ad
visers including the Ebony Players, the
Ebony Dancers, Umoja (a newsletter)
and United Voices (a gospel choir).
The Black Student Alliance chairper
sons for 1981-82 are Gary Howkins, Mit
chell and Bobby Smith. For further in

F’AKM Brotherhood
The purpose of FARM is to create a
brotherhood of young men, bound by a
common purpose, this I icing friendship.
Membership in the FARM
Brotherhood is available to anyone of
college age. However, one need not be a
student at the college to be an active
brother.
The Brotherhood establishes a
quarterly membership fee of $25, which
shall be paid at the second meeting of
each quarter.
The president of FARM for 1981-82 is
Brooks Lansing and the vice president
is Jackie Brown. For further informa

OZ Sisterhood
The purpose of OZ shall be:
1. Provide a sisterhood for the
member.
2. Promote a unity, with a meaningful
program of activities and functions.
3. Promote superior scholarship as
basic to intellectual achievement.
4. Promote the development of
leadership, organization, community
service, and social activity for all
members.
5. Cooperate with the college ad
ministration in concern for West,
Georgia College.
6. Provide a social environment that
is healthy and rewarding for all
members.
7. There are many functions of OZ, all
beneficial to the members.
All rules, regulations, and policies
are in accordance with the administra
tion. Being an active student, with an
overall G.P.A. of 2.0, and a sincere in
tention to promote the sisterhood of OZ
are the requirements for membership.
The president of OZ for 1981-82 is

THE WESLEY FOUNDATION
The Wesley Foundation is the United
Methodist campus ministry program at
state colleges and universities. The pur
pose of this ministry 4o the com
munities of higher education includes:
. . . calling people to the Ixirdship of
Christ; encouraging teaching and
scholarship that is both intellectually
rigorous and humane; holding in
stitutions accountable for humane
values; helping institutions fulfill theirs'
mission to people; gathering a com-'’
munity of the faithful; and helping peo
ple within the college-university an
ticipate and work for a better society.

Foundation at West Georgia.
