Dessert Theatre Features Neil Simon's Comic 'Chapter Two'
BY CINDY BOOKER
On Monday, Jan. 25 at 8:00 p.m., the
Repertory Theatre of America will
present to West Georgia College and
the Carrollton Community the Alpha-
Omega Players in a Neil Simon com
edy entitled Chapter Two. The presen

The Repertory Theatre of America,
Alpha-Omega Players is a national
touring company. They are especially
noted for the fact that they stage more
performances annually than any
other organization of its kind in the
country . Drexel H. Riley, now direc
tor and producer of the Alpha-Omega
Players, founded the company in 1967.
They have been called “the most ac
tive repertory touring theatre in the
country.” This fact can easily be pro
ven in that they have travelled more
than 2 million miles and played over

Braves Down Albany State 78-61
BY ERIC HERBST
How can a team look like a NCAA
champion one night and then like a
conference cellar dweller another
night? The West Georgia Braves pro
vided classic examples of how to do it
as they lost to a struggling Birm

came back to beat Bth ranked Albany
State Saturday night, in Albany, 78-67.
The main difference in the two
games as far as West Georgia was
concerned was the number of assists
they made. In the Southern game, the
Braves fifth straight loss, West
Georgia could total only six assists as

Drexel Riley auditions more than
600 actors each year. Of the 600,12 are

comprised of four outstanding actors.
They are: Randall Mead, accomplish

The Birmingham Southern game
saw the Braves race out to an eight
point half time advantage behind
Paul Harvey’s nine points and three
rebounds. The second half proved to
be a total contrast. West Georgia com
mitted 16 turnovers to Southern's four

from the free throw line. The eight
point lead quickly vanished and found
Southern up by six points with 42
seconds remaining.
Harvey led the Braves in scoring
with 20 points, while Greg Rabideaux
had his highest rebounding total of the
season, grabbing 11 boards.
The Record described the play as “A

The Toons Vocalize Their Tunes At WGC
The Toons will be appearing at West Georgia on Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. in the
Club Z-6. For the third consecutive year, the group has been nominated for
the Cabaret Gold Award for Outstanding Musical Group by the San Fran
cisco Council on Entertainment. They won the award in 1978 and have
received acclaim by the city’s cabaret owners, producers, directors, and
critics.
The Toons also received attention at the 1981 National Entertainment and
College Activities Association Convention in San Antonio. They had the
largest number of block booking dates in the NECAA’s history. The group is
currently touring extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The pop group writes almost all its own music. John Miline, Craig Faniani,
and Chris Sanborn are the chief composers for the Toons tunes. Their album,
Live Toons, is a menagerie of their biggest crowd pleasers. The album has
drawn considerable attention on the west coast.
If the group’s West Georgia performance lives up to its outstanding
reputation, we can certainly anticipate an evening of spirited, innovative
“toons.”

The trip to Albany brought different
results. Before a jam-packed house of
hostile fans, it looked as if West
Georgia would be blown right out of
the gym. The Rams scored the first
eight points of the contest. However,
West Georgia did not panic. Harvey
and Lee went on scoring sprees, as the
Braves cut a once comfortable Ram
lead to a single digit, 34-33 at the mid
way break. Harvey had 18 and Lee 10
points at the half. Rabideaux and Den

the Braves assuming a 21-12 advan

And indeed, Simon’s career has
been distinguishing. Beginning at the
age of 15, as a comic writer, Simon's

people together. They are a caring,
concerned people who show the emo

these emotions back at times. The act
in itself displays their feelings.
Without my experience with these
people, my education would be in

the times I will spend in Carrollton.
These thoughts come from
observations of these magnanimous

Neil Simon’s Chapter Two is admit
tedly autobiographical. It is the story
of a somewhat successful novelist who
falls in love and marries a woman he
meets as the result of misdialing a
phone number. The marriage,
however, is not a bed of roses. The
novelist was recently widowed and is
plagued with thorns of guilt over the
prospect of happiness with another
woman.

instead it was soulful, and it packed

Lady Braves Respond
With Adaptability
BY TOMMY FOREST
How would one expect a basketball
team to perform after losing seven
players in one season? One would not
expect the I-ady Braves to have a
striking 10-3 record with a perfect 3-0
in the conference. They achieved this
in spite of losing starters Lisa Warren
and Mary Fletcher with knee injuries,
two players due to grades, and three
players who graduated last year.
“The team has made a lot of ad
justments because of player loss,”
remarked Coach Nancy Mosely. They
have adapted favorably toward the
position changes which at times oc
curred a week before a game. “I could
ask any of my girls to play any given
position and she would do it,” Coach
Mosely commented.
How have the Lady Braves been
able to adjust so quickly and diligent
ly? According to Mosely they simply
have a “proper, winning attitude. A
winning attitude is indeed essential
for success in team sports such as
basketball.
However, their winning attitude
failed to shine, Jan. 11 when the I-ady
Braves faced the Georgia Tech
Yellow Jackettes at Alexander
Memorial Coliseum. West Georgia on
ly scored 19 points in the first half
while the Yellow Jackettes put up 26
points. In the second half the I-ady
Braves retaliated with 36 more points.

Without a doubt, Chapter Two is a
typical reflection of Neil Simon’s
humor and ability to laugh at even his
own tragedy. It is an ardent and funny
comedy that deals with the kinds of
pain ordinary people feel.
The Dessert Theatre will provide
for an enjoyable evening. Everyone

This is the way a party should be. It

beating the Jackettes, who won 57-55.
West Georgia had two shots near the
closing of the game; however, both at
tempts faded.
The game was a tremendous upset,
since the Jackettes have been floor
mats of state competition for the last
six years. Cindy Cochran led the
Jackettes in rebounds with 15 boards
and led Tech in baskets with 17 points.
Sheila Mitchum led the Braves with 12
rebounds. Lady Braves’ Sonya
Dickerson beat out everyone in nets
with a total of 25 points.
That I-ady Braves’ winning attitude
did materialize Friday night on the
home court when they pounded
Shorter College 69-58. West Georgia
dominated the entire game with a half
time score 34-24. The fans’ cheering
helped keep the momentum going.
Karen Garrett must be given credit
for scoring an astonishing 29 points;
but, she could not have done it without
the constant following of the game
plan by the rest of the team. Sonya
Dickerson and Brenda Potts of West
Georgia topped our teams in rebounds
with eight boards each. Cindy
Nicholes trailed Karen Garrett with
16 points.
The Lady Braves will be playing
Tift College Wednesday night and
North Georgia College Friday night.
Both games are at the West Georgia
gym. The Lady Braves will also face
Berry College in Rome on Jan. 25.
