Bad Cos. caps perfect season
with 20-0 championship win

Led by quarterback Jennifer
Cheek, who was 13 of 17 with three
touchdown passes, Bad Company
defeated BSU 20-0 last Thursday to
win the women’s Intramural flag
football championship.
“Overall we played a good game,”
Bad Company coach Horace Deal
said. “Our defense deserves credit
for this game and for our successful
season.”
For much of the first half, the
game was a defensive battle. Neither
team had as much as a first down
until a BSU first down late in the
half. Bad Company played the en
tire first half without a single first
down.
The only score came when Cheek
connected with Traci Lewis to give
Bad Company a 6-0 lead. The extra
point was initially successful, but a
penalty negated this.
The first half ended with the
BSU’s Christy Benefield completing
only one pass in 12 attempts and

With 41 seconds remaining, Go
ing Deep scored the game's only
touchdown and held on to defeat the
Sigmas 7-0 to capture the men’s
intramural flag football champion
ship last Thursday.
In a first half that was controlled
by both defenses, Going Deep sus
tained the only drive minutes before
halftime but was denied a score in a
goal to go situation by an intercep
tion.
In a second half characterized by
close calls, both teams were denied
touchdowns as their receivers were
ruled out of bounds on successful
catches in the endzone.
Going Deep broke the defensive
struggle by scoring the lone touch
with Bad Company leading by the
slim margin of 6-0.
Bad Company scored on the first
drive of the second half when Cheek
found Jaqueline Cheek in the back of
the endzone for the touchdown. The
extra point was no good, and Bad
Company led 12-0.

Wilcox’s pass into the endzone was
deflected, but wide receiver Jeff
Meyer came up with the ball on a
diving catch giving Going Deep a 6-
0 lead. The extra point attempt was
converted on yet another deflected
pass which Meyer also pulled down
in the endzone. ,
Going Deep record improved to
8-0 with the win, while the Sigmas
dropped to 7-1-1 on the season.
Both Going Deep and the Sigmas
are eligible for state competition as
the top two teams represent their
respected schools. The tourney will
be played at Georgia Southern Uni
versity in Statesboro, GA on Nov.
22-23.

Jaqueline Cheek scored the two-point
conversion to give Bad Company a
20-0 lead.
Bad Company finished the year
at 10-0 and scored a total of 190
points while allowing their opponents
only 48 points. BSU winds up the
year at 7-2.
Bad Company is now headed to
the state tournament to be held this
Friday and Saturday at Georgia
Southern.
“I think we will play good at the
state tournament,” Deal said. “State
varies from year to year so it is hard
to make a prediction at this time.”
Lady Braves
Moscrip and Mann
lead the way as
team finishes on a
positive note

The West Georgia Lady Braves
volleyball team wrapped up the 1991
season by placing third in the Gulf
South Conference tournament last
weekend.
The Braves began the double
elimination tournament by defeating
Mississippi College three games to
one (15-11, 13-15, 15-5, 15-3). In
the second game on Friday night the
Lady Braves lost to Livingston, 3-0.
West Georgia swept the Univer
sity of North Alabama by the scores
of 15-12, 15-13, and 15-9 before
dropping out of the tournament to
Livingston, 3-1.

its first winning season since 1982.
The Braves led 42-0 at the half
and never looked back as they
won going away in front of a sparse
Lane crowd of less than 200.
“We’ve come a long way,”
said Braves Head Coach Ron
Jumey. “I’m really happy for the
program, and I’m really happy for
our seniors. Their leadership
played a major role in capturing
this winning season. Now we just
need to keep it going.”
Louis Lomax tacked on three
more touchdowns to his school
record for touchdowns in a sea
son, ending the season with 14.

Kevin Fleeman, and Joaquinn
Hunt. Chris Teal connected with
Leo Mendenhall for a 35 yard
touchdown pass, and freshman
Antjuane Sims had an 83 yard
kickoff return for a TD to open
the second half.
The win gave the Braves a
final record of 6-5 and left the
Braves tied for third place in the
Gulf South Conference. This is
the best finish ever in the Gulf
South Conference for West
Georgia College.
WGC finished the season at
first place in the conference in
total offense and passing offense.
