‘My Father the Hero’: Another ‘Home Alone’ copy-cat
Mac Donehoo
Staff Columnist
The film “My Father the Hero”
is vying for the audience that went to
see the “Home Alone” sequence.
Placing cute, young actors in light
comedies is a tried and true formula
which obviously brings financial
success.
“M y Father the I Icro” is a classic
example of part of the problems ex
pounding the experts every time we
turn on the television.
The plot involves an impetuous
teenage girl and her relationship with
her father.

Looking for a good movie to
see on a date? The new James
Brooks film, “I’ll Do Anything,”
may be the one for you.
“I’ll Do Anything” is a ro

Nolte (“48 hours,” “Prince of
Tides,” “Cape Fear”), Albert
Brooks, Julie Kavner, Joely
Richardson, Tracy Ullman and
Whittni Wright.
In the movie, Nick Nolte plays

pctuous when her father takes her on
a vacation to one of those famous
seaside resorts —a resorts where the
parking lot looks like a BMW or
Mercedes dealership lot.
Her father has been away for a
year and a half, stuffing his Swiss
bank account so his daughter can
continue in her pampered lifestyle,
unfettered.
Nicole strikes the fancy of a
young gentleman. Instead of letting
nature take its course, she proves her
impetuosity through lies and deceit,
simply to gain control and have her
own way.
Instead of “snatching a knot” in
her for lying, her father plays along
with her charade.
he suddenly has his 6-year-old
daughter thrown into his life, af
ter not seeing her for three years.
What follows is a comedy in
which Nolte learns to love and
care for his young daughter.
When I began reading about
this movie, my first thoughts
were “Oh boy, here’s another
movie about how tough life is for
everyone in Hollywood BOO
Hoo! Get a real job!” I do have
to admit, the more I read the more
I began to feel this may be a
movie about everyday life and
love.

This is one I will not be spending
30 bucks on to take the family to see.
ITI wait until it comes out on video.
Then I’ll rent it to show my daughter
how not to act.
