West Georgia College named its Most Valuable Players for intercollegiate sports during Braves Senior Night, held May

Seniors and MVPs
honored by Braves Boosters

The West Georgia College Braves
Booster Club honored WGC seniors
and MVP’s last Tuesday night.
Each senior was given a
commerative gift for their years of
representing WGC fairly on and off
the field and the MVP’s received a
plaque.
Named MVP for Braves baseball
was Jarad (J.J.) Hunt, a senior from
Decatur who batted. 322, had 11
doubles, 28 stolen bases and was a
first-team All-GSC selection. Shawn
Hadley, a senior from Laurel,
Mississippi was named MVP for
men’s basketball after he poured in
25.2 points per game (which led the
GSC), was fifth in the nation in
scoring and was a first-team All-
GSC selection.
Women’s basketball honors were
shared by Kristi Coffee, a senior
from Gainesville and Sharon
Yarbrough, a senior from East Point.

Coffee averaged 15.5 per game
and was a second team All-GSC
selection. Yarbrough led the team
with a 17 point average and 13.6
rebounds (led the GSC and fourth
in the nation) per outing and was
a first-team All-GSC selection.
Übaldo Hurtado, a freshman
from Snellville, was men’s cross
country MVP finishing eighth in
the GSC meet and an All-GSC
selection. The women’s honor
went to Tracy Montgomery, a
junior from Brighton, Ontario
(Canada), who has won the award
the two previous years and was an
All-GSC selection.
Laura Parson, a junior from
Cartersville, was named softball
MVP after she led the GSC with
246.1 innings pitched and led the
team with a .336 batting average.
Senior hitter Yvonne Elm, from
Kennesaw, was named volleyball
MVP after she had a dig percentage
of .926 per game.
