Movie Review
’The Relic’ full of horror, short on suspense
Angela Wingers
Staff Writer
“Relic,” a recent movie showing
in Carrollton does not rank in the top
10 list of horror movies, but maybe
the top 20.
Set in a Chicago museum, the
movie's plot develops as an
anthropologist’s findings from a
South American journey turn deadly.
It stars Penelope Ann Miller as a
convincing evolutionary biologist.

“Relic” has your typical horror:
blood, decapitation, and death, but
it’s missing certain elements. Without
giving too much away, the storyline
isn’ tascreati veas those in “Nightmare
on Elm St.” or “Aliens.”
Instead, “Relic” relys on
characters with good interaction,
entertaining dialogue, and suspense.
The actors seem convincing in their
roles, so they are not to blame.
The special effects are good, but
it’s lacking in suspense and a style
Opera Workshop comes back to West Georgia
The State University of West
Georgia Opera Workshop will
present the production of “Operatic
Libations” tonight at 8 p.m. at the
Black Box.of the Townsend Center
for Performing Arts.
This production is unique in
that it features, three drinks in its
scenes: milk, wine and coffee. The
first piece, “Duet for two cats,” by
Rossini is performed simultaneously
by two cats in Italian and English.
The two cats are played by Kelly
Jenkins and RitaMarcec, two music
majors from UWG.
The second duet is “Elixir of
Love," which includes one charac
ter who is seeking a magic elixir and
a traveling salesman who happens
that keeps you cm the edge of your
seat.
If you’re patient, you won’t mind
waiting for about an hour into the
movie before the real action starts.
That’s when the movie really takes
hold, and keeps you entertained.
Unfortunately, by this time, the movie
is well over halfway through and
leaves you wanting more.
“Relic” isn’t a waste of time to
watch, but I suggest saving money
and see it when it comes out on video.
to have cheap wine on hand. The
characters are performed by Harley
Granville and Harry Nelson.
The last piece is the “Coffee
Cantata” by J.S. Bach, sponsored
by Starbucks Coffee. In the cantata,
Granville is the narrator and the two
characters are played by Benjamin
Sweatt, a senior vocal performance
major, andMisty Mathis Smith, who
graduated in 1995.
Because the cantata is spon
sored by Starbucks, they will give to
the audience members free
Starbucks Brew Kits which include
6 oz. of coffee, a coffee scoop, and
instructions.
The pianist for the evening is
Terri Fazio, a local Carrollton piano
