The Ghost and the Darkness
leaped on video recently

As the lion comes rushing
through the Kenyan grasslands,
the audience tenses up for the
moment of attack. Suddenly, as
the lion jumps towards the man’s
throat, you almost cry for help.
No, this isn’t another “When
Animals Attack” quasi-documen
tary. This is the movie “The Ghost
and the Darkness,” recently re
leased on video, and the most chill
ing part of the movie is that is all
based on a true story.
The movie, starring Val
Kilmer and Michael Douglas, is
set in the late 1800s while the
British Empire was building a rail
road across Kenya. Kilmer plays

showed dedication and hard work
on a specific show.
Categories for awards include
Most Outstanding Set Design, Most
Outstanding Props Design, Best
Actress, Best Actor, Most Outstand
ing Company Member, and Most
Outstanding Costume Design.
The Golden Nail Award is also
given out to the clumsiest person in
the scene shop. Prestigious scholar-

Patterson is fascinated with
Africa. At first, the workers con
sider him a hero for killing a lion
with one shot. However, those feel
ings change when two other lions
start attacking the workers.
Soon over 100 workers fall prey
to the lions and Patterson must pair
up with a world-famous game
hunter, Remington (Douglas), in
order to kill the beasts.
Remington starts out confident,
but soon realize the lions, named
“The Ghost” and “The Darkness,”
are hunting for sport, not food.
The movie is full of action and
events, and the fact that everything
is true will keep you riveted until the
end. When the narrator tells where
you can visit the stuffed lions now,
you will be ready to pack up the car
and go.
ship awards also will be presented
The hosts of this year’s cer
emonies are Evan Shoemake, sopho
more theater major, and Karen
Baker, senior theater Major.
The theme is “Broadway
Bound,” and all who attend are re
quired to dress as their favorite char
acter from a Broadway show. At the
end of the night, an award will be
given for the best costume.
“It’s sort of our version of the
Tonys,” said Shoemake with a laugh.
All students who have worked
with the Theatre Company are in
vited to attend. Contact mass com

‘Jurassic Park-Lost World,’ big
thriller, but not enough meat

“Jurassic Park-Lost World”
made a bite at the box office when it
opened Memorial Day Weekend.
Theaters were packed with movie
goers anticipating the sequel to
Steven Speilberg’s monster hit of
the early '9os.
Although the movie is good,
“Lost World” is not suitable for
children, or even some adults.
The movie is a comedy, but full
of suspense. It’s overwhelming to

Pandora’s Box-your caffeine
center during final exams

Pandora’s Box, a coffee and
gift shop, is now open on the
Carrollton Square. This yellow and
blue-colored building is the latest
“alternative” place of business to
open in this area.
Pandora’s Box serves various
types of coffee, including
cappuccino, cafe mocha, and fla
vored coffee.
Daily pastries, such as cake and
biscotti, are offered to the custom
ers to enjoy with their coffee.
Tables are set up in the store to
let customers enjoy the coffee
actually see how real the dinosaurs
look!
One good factor in the movie
was the realistic-looking dinosaurs.
In some movies, characters and
props that look fake take away from
the true essence of the movie.
Much of the movie is similar to
the first “Jurassic Park” film, which
made this one boring.
The new features in the movie
were good, but there should have
been more new angles, props, and
special effects.
Much of the movie was based
