With the season
winding down, every
match the Braves win
gets them one step closer
to a spot the Gulf South
Conference tournament.
Last week, West
Georgia took on the
North Alabama Lions and
the Montevallo Falcons
in an important pair of
conference matches.
The Braves fell to
North Alabama on Tuesday,
but they were able to beat
Montevallo on Thursday
to keep their post season
hopes alive.
The Lions came into
Carrollton on Tuesday 22-
1 on the year and ranked
seventh in the nation.
It was an almost
identical situation last
year when the Lions came
into town. That night, the
Braves pulled off one of
the biggest upsets in the
program’s history.
West Georgia had an
upset on the mind again
when the match began. The
Braves played the Lions
tough in the early stages of
the first game, but a 12-11
lead would be the last time
the Braves would be ahead
the whole match.
From there, North
Alabama began to pull
wip
the game 30-21.

second game. North
Alabama jumped out to
an 11-4 lead and never
looked back. They went
on to win 30-16.
West Georgia showed
some signs of life in the
third game. After the Lions
built a 14-5 lead, the Braves
fired off seven unanswered
points to cut the lead to
two. That would be as
close as they would get, as
North Alabama went on to
win 30-18.
On Thursday, in front
of a crowd of 276, the
Braves played Montevallo
in a must win match.
The two teams looked
evenly matched in the first
game. The Braves would
take a lead early, but the
Falcons worked to close
the gap.
With the score tied at
14, the Braves began to
take control. West Georgia
was able to maintain a
small lead throughout the
remainder of the game and
went on to win 30-26.
Montevallo was able
to grab the lead in the
second game, and West
Georgia just could not
pull ahead. The Falcons
went on to win the second
game 30-25 to even the
match at one.
Montevallo took a
lead in the third game
as well, but this time the
Braves fought back. With
the crowd erupting in the
Tomahawk Chop.
West Georgia went
on to take the lead and
Montevallo could not stop
the attack. The Braves won
the third game 30-20.
The fourth game was
a lot like the third. West
Georgia found themselves
down early, but once again,
they found a way to win.
The Braves took the final
game 30-27.
Carolin Schoeneck
and Stephanie Singleton
led the way for the Braves
with a combined 49 kills.
Megan Crumpton had 14
digs to lead the defense.
Braves’ Head Coach
Regan Adams talked about
the importance of the win.
“We had to win the
match to go to the [GSC]
tournament. Its one of
four that we have to win,”
said Adams.
West Georgia’s next
five matches will be on
the road. The Braves close
out the season at home
on Nov. 3 when they take
on Alabama-Huntsville
on Senior Night in the
HPE Building. The match
begins at 7 p.m.

This past week, the

the Lions 4-1.

West Georgia in the second

the only goal in the first
half when Casie Poyssick
found the back of the net at
the 33 minute mark.
In the second half,

thanks to a tough defense
St. Leo was able to shut
down UWG as they went
on to win 2-1.
The Braves will return
to action Friday afternoon
at 4 p.m. when they host
