Charges filed in Downs shooting incident
Students given 'interim suspension' as investigation proceeds

Public Safety
officials are still trying to
sort out the details from a
shooting that occurred in
front of Downs Hall two
weeks ago.
The three students
who were involved,
William Bohannon, Kelly
King and Vaughn Jackson,
have all been given
an interim suspension
pending the conclusion
of the investigation. One
student has been charged
in the incident.
According to Sergeant
Brandon Smith, the
officer investigating the
incident, Bohannon was
arrested Friday morning
and has been charged with

were treated to a night of
music commemorating the
birthday of Aldolphe Sax,
inventor of the modem
Saxophone.
Presented by the UWG
Saxophone Studio and
Saxophone Ensemble last
Thursday, the performers
included UWG students,
alumni and faculty. Chad
Sims, Dr. Andrew Leavitt,
Emily Cash, Stacy Gay and
Luigi Baccala, all played
wonderful solo pieces
highlighted by Jan Adams
on the piano.

Logo concepts for
the six University of
West Georgia mascot
proposals are ready for
consideration by students,
faculty, staff, alumni and
fans. Several forums
have been scheduled to
allow for feedback on
the visual representation
of the mascots under
consideration: Mustangs,
Wolves, The Brave,
Firebirds, Redhawks and
Patriots.

The details of the
incident are murky and
the criminal investigation
into the case will
hopefully reveal what
actually happened.
All of the students
involved attended a party
that was held off campus at
the Village West apartment
complex. Smith believed
that the incident was from
something that happened
while the students were at
the party.
After the party, Kelly
King and Vaughn Jackson
had a confrontation with
William Bohannon, who
was accompanied by his
friend McKinley Brown,
outside of Downs Hall.
Bohannon, who had a BB

invented the instrument,
and it is very important

styles of music today and
that is why it is important
to recognize him.”

performances, the stage

The forums will
provide one means of
collecting feedback on
the names themselves
(without a reference to
the specific designs) and
to determine whether
there is a strong affinity
for any of the six names.
Other feedback
will be sought on the
overall design concept

very different, with the
mix between woodwind
and brass, you get a
wonderful tone.”

threat to the student or to
others, or to the stability
and continuance of normal
university functions.”

something many students
are concerned with on a
daily basis.
Lindsey McGaha,
a UWG senior, believes
the Department of Public
Saftey does a good job
at keeping the campus
secure, but has some
