The Braves kicked off
theirseason last Friday with
a doubleheader against
the Albany State Rams.
West Georgia dropped the
first game 10-8, but the
Braves scored at will in the
nightcap, beating up on the
Rams 15-2.
It may have been a
cold February day, but the
Braves’ bats were on fire.
In the first game, West
Georgia jumped out to 5-
1 lead and looked to be
firmly in control.
But, then, the Rams
came to bat in the bottom
of the fifth.
In the inning, Albany
State erupted, scoring nine
runs to take a 10-5 lead.
The Braves would
attempt a comeback in the
top of the seventh, but they
could only manage to plate
three runs, and they came
up on the short end of a 10-
8 final.

Braves go 1-1 on the week
with help from Parker Bros.
By Amanda TYice

After the cold winter
weather struck last
weekend, the double header
the Braves had scheduled
on Sunday was postponed.
The cancellation served
as a break for the Braves
who were busy last week
playing two games, one
away and one at home.
The Braves traveled to
Americus, Ga. on Tuesday
and fell to the Georgia
Southwestern Hurricanes,
7-1. The Hurricanes
dominated early, scoring a
run in the first and a pair
in the third. They would go
on to add four more.
West Georgia’s only
runs came in the top of
the ninth as Jason Parker
connected for his third
home run of the season.
The Braves were at
home on Wednesday to
take on the Albany State
Rams. West Georgia came
from behind in dramatic
fashion to win 5-4.
In the first inning, Jim
Baeumel walked and then
stole second to give the
Braves an early scoring
opportunity. Adam
Pritchard took advantage,
homering to deep left to
give the Braves a 2-0 lead.
The two teams played
excellent defense over
the next four innings, as
neither teams could score.
However, in the
sixth inning Ryan Riles
of the Rams doubled and
advanced to third on a balk.
Eric Love singled to bring
Riles home, putting the
Rams’ on the score board.
Riles would strike
again in the eighth. After
drawing a walk, he stole
second. Tyrone Mingle
followed by blasting a
homerun into the trees in
left, giving Albany its first
lead of the day. Braves’
head coach Doc Fowlkes
went to the bullpen and
brought in Clay Dykes,
who led the Braves in
appearances last year.
Dykes got two quick outs
before the Rams’ Jarvis
<El|g tflcst (Georgian
Williams singled to bring
in the Albany State first
baseman Eric Love. The
Rams took a 4-2 lead.
West Georgia would
not go down without a
fight. Alex Parker, brother
of Jason, hit a homerun in
the Braves’ eigth to bring
the team within one.
In the ninth, Tyler
Meigs came in to pinch
hit and drew a walk. Steve
Ryan then pinch ran for
him. Baeumel followed
with a big double to put
runners on second and
third. Pritchard was then
intentionally walked to
bring up J. Parker. Parker
hit a shot up the middle that
bounced off the Albany
State pitcher’s glove.
Ryan came in to score the
tying run. A. Parker then
knocked in the winning
run with a walk off single
into left over the Rams’
shortstop. Baeumel scored
and the Braves won 5-4.
West Georgia takes
on Ga. College & State at
home today. First pitch is
scheduled for 2 p.m.
