McCartney, Stanger charged
with possession of cocaine

Two members of the
2005-06 West Georgia
men’s basketball team
were arrested by the Carroll
County Sheriff’s office
during a random license
and insurance check on
March 10 when a small
bag of cocaine was found
in their car.
Jacob McCartney,
22, and Adam Stanger,
19, were charged with
possession of cocaine
w hen the car, a 1994 green
Oldsmobile driven by
McCartney, was stopped
near the intersection of
Lovvorn Road and Burson
Avenue around 11:20 p.m.

incident report, when
questioned about the
cocaine, found in the
console between the front
two seats, both Stanger
and McCartney said that
it belonged to a friend that
had access to the vehicle.
According to the
report, a large half-empty
bottle of wine was also
found in the car. Both
McCartney and Stanger
tested positive for alcohol
when given a preliminary
breath test (PBT).
McCartney, a
junior, was charged with
possession of cocaine
and for having an open
container. Stanger, a
freshman, was charged
for possession of cocaine,
giving false information,
and underage consumption
of alcohol.
The West Georgia
athletic department would
not comment on the
arrests.
McCartney, who was
released from the team
late in the season, was
not a member of the West
Georgia basketball team
at the time of the arrest.
Stanger is still a current
member of the team.
Stanger, a 6-foot
-2 guard, averaged 20.7
minutes-per-game during
the 2005-06 season and
finished the season with 66
assists, the second highest
total on the team.
McCartney, a 6-foot
-10 center, averaged 11.8
minutes and 1.9 points
per-game during the season
before being released.

UWG Golf
Men's team
The men's golf team played in the Lincoln
Memorial Invitational Tournament in Harrogate,
Tenn. on March 13 and 14. The team finished first
in the tournament. Three Braves finished in the
top-10, led by Steve Hocker's fourth place finish.
Taylor Virgil (6th) and Bryan Harrell (9th) were
the two other top-10 finishers for the Braves.
Women's team
The women's golf team also made the trip to
Tennessee to play in the Lincoln Memorial wom
en's Invitational Tournament. West Georgia won
its second straight tournament, coming in four
strokes ahead of second place Southern Indiana.
Amanda Horn, Dee Ann Dillard, Natalie Beach,
and Carrie Parker each finished in the top-10 for
the Braves.
