The Humanities
building houses the
Department of Art with
two galleries: the Main
Gallery is located on the
first floor and exhibits
works of invited guests
such as local artists as
well as group exhibitions
generally for about one
month.
Opening hours are
usually scheduled for
the first Thursday of the
month from 5 p.m. to 7
p.m.
These artists give
lectures on their work and
process and even work
with art students.
An upcoming
exhibition and event the
department is especially
looking forward to is the
Lincoln Perry exhibition.
This is a joint program with
the English Department.
Mr. Perry’s spouse, the
writer Ann Beattie, will be
on campus working with
Dr Jane Hill's “Individual
Authors” class.
On Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
in the Townsend Center
both departments and the
University will present

Wolves’ home opener and the first volleyball match in the new gym. The Wolves came
away with a 3-0 sweep against Columbus State.
"The Student Voice at the University of West Georgia since 1934”
“A Conversation with
Ann Beattie and Lincoln
Perry” who will speak on
the nature of creativity
and collaboration. This is
anticipated to be a “standing
room only” event.
The second gallery
is on the second floor and
gives graduating art major
students the possibility
to show their work to the
public throughout the year
and thus experience w hich
effect their piece has on
other people.
The Atlanta Gallery
Project also has an exciting
schedule this year. The
Department of Art will be
organizing two exhibitions
which will take place in
Atlanta Mason Murer Fine
Art. Mason Murer Fine
Art is a 24.000 square-foot
gallery centrally located in
Midtown Atlanta.
Representing regional
artists as well as artists
from around the world,
it exhibits monumental
sculpture, painting,
photography and works
on paper by emerging and
established artists in a
range of styles. Visit http://
www.masonmurer.com to
look for upcoming events.
The first exhibition is
titled “Telling... Narrative
Impulse of Visual Art “ and
includes work by UWG
art faculty whose work
explores the interaction
between literary and visual
narratives.
The Office of
Development and Alumni
Relations will host a gala
reception at the gallery
on Nov. 8 from 7 p.m. to
10 p.m.
The second Atlanta
Gallery Project exhibition
at Mason Murer is a
Student Award Exhibition.
The Department
of Art is sponsoring a
new award program for
our most talented and
promising students.
The new Student
Award Exhibition will
be given to one or more
graduating seniors each
spring and provides an
unprecedented opportunity
for students to show their
work in a commercial
gallery to a huge audience.
Stephanie Smith,
Gallery coordinator since
last spring, and the Interim
Chair Kevin Shunn as w ell
as the outgoing Interim
Chair Debrah Santini
are the main forces who
worked hard to fill the
galleries with a wide
variety of art pieces.

Grad develops website

Josh OKeefe, a
former West Georgia
student who graduated last
December with a degree
in Sports Management,
has developed anew
networking website
geared especially
towards college
students.
The site, http://www.
yazzee.com, is similar to
other popular sites like '
http://www.facebook.
com, but promises a more
comprehensive experience
for its members.
OKeefe said he “is
looking to help students
with their individual needs
and give them the resources
other sites fail to offer.”
Yazzee will provide
a site where a student can
post a personal profile and
look up friends, as well as
a place they can do several
other tasks related to their
life as a college student.
The recent grad is
striving to go beyond
the social aspect of other
similar websites and give
students a chance to explore
different avenues within
their collegiate career.

In order to accomplish
this, the site will provide a
feature for its members to
buy, sell, and trade books
w ith one another, as well as
a section to anonymously
rate their professors.

Looking for college
sports tickets? Yazzee.com
will help its members find
those as well.
If a student needs
new dorm room furniture,
Yazzee has a classifieds
section, as well other
helpful tools designed in an
effort to make college life
a little easier to manage.
OKeefe expressed, “I
was a student once, and I
understand the need to have
everything incorporated
into one place. I just want
to make college life easier
and more productive for
the students.”
Other useful features
of the site will include
an integrated calendar to
organize test dates and
social events, question
and answer forums, a live
video chat, a specialized
roommate “finder” and
even a section to post
resumes and receive
individual feedback.
Overall, Yazzee.com
appeals to simplicity by
offering a “one stop”
site for students in
cyberspace.
Numerous other
features will be
incorporated into the site,
largely depending on the
feedback that is given by
its newest members.
In order to achieve
this, OKeefe is asking to
have student opinions and
advice before the site’s
initial launch.
“I am aiming
primarily at West Georgia
and other surrounding
colleges to begin with,
and plan to take off from
there,” he said.
Every new member to
the site will be directed to
fill out a short survey, and
in doing this, visitors will
automatically be entered to
win a free Apple iPod.
Yazzee.com will be
up and fully functional by
December.
