The Wolves' offensive
struggles continued Satur
day as they fell 16-9 to the
Henderson State Reddies.
The loss was the
Wolves fourth straight
as they fell to 0-2 in the
Gulf South Conference,
0-4 overall.
Just an hour prior
to kickoff, the electricity
throughout the Henderson
State campus went out.
The loss of power ren
dered the game clock and
play clock useless, forc
ing the GSC rivals to play
the entire game without a
viewable clock.
The Reddies (4-1, 2-
0) began the game with
the ball but went three and
out on the first drive of the
game.
Henderson State quar
terback Garett Manning,
who is also the punter, then
pinned the Wolves back to
their own 1.
The Wolves barely
missed giving up a safety
on the first offensive play
of the game as quarterback
Brett Yenser tossed to run
ning back James Kinne
brew, who broke a tackle
in the end zone to get to
the 2 yard line.
Two plays later
though, on 3rd and 9 from
the 2, Yenser connected
with senior receiver Jay
Holbrook for a 16 yard
completion.
However, there was
an offensive hold in the
endzone that nullified the
gain and a safety was re

corded for the first 2 points
of the game.
Later in the first af
ter a Larico Stevenson
intercepted Manning, the
Wolves found themselves
in Reddies territory for the
first time in the game.
A few plays later, the
Wolves were in a 4th and
inches situation in the red
zone and Coach Mike Led
ford sent in field goal kick
er Casey Hale, who was 0-
for-4 on field goal attempts
coming into the game.
Hale pushed the 26
yard attempt wide right
but would go on to account
for all nine of the Wolves'
points, connecting on three
field goals (28, 29, 24).
The field lights began
working late in the first
quarter as did the legs of
Manning, as he rushed for
126 yards on 23 carries on
the night.
Manning averaged 5.5
yards per carry while pass
ing for 48 yards and also
punting 4 times for an av
erage of 48 yards per punt.
Early in the second
quarter Manning scram
bled 16 yards to get inside
UWG’s 10 yard line. Two
plays later. Manning found
Marcus Clark for the first
score of the game. The
Reddies missed the PAT,
leaving the score at 8-0.
The Wolves appeared
to make the inopportune
mistake that has plagued
them all season long half
way through the second
quarter when Brett Yenser
was intercepted.
However, the inter
ception was waived off be
cause of defensive holding.
UWG running back
Adam Patrick made good
on the Wolves second
chance, gaining 38 yards
on 3rd and short. After
entering the red zone, the
drive stalled forcing a field
goal attempt.
Hale made gwnl on
his second attempt of the
game from 28 yards out.
The field goal was the first
of the season for Hale. Af
ter the field goal, the score
at the half was 8-3.
The Wolves opened
up the second half by
driving 58 yards down to
the HSU 13 hut the drive
stalled. Hale was called
on yet again to make the
score 8-6.
The highlight of the
drive came on a screen
pass to Patrick that he
took 20 yards down the
field after the catch.
On the ensuing kick
off, the special teams unit
made yet another blunder.
The kickoff sailed out of
bounds, giving the Red
dies good field position at
their own 35.
The HSU drive end
ed on a 4th and 6 gamble.
Manning’s errant pass
found Stevenson for his
second pick of the game.
Manning was hit by Odell
Willis just as he threw the
ball up for grabs.
The Wolves put an
other impressive drive
together only to come up
short yet again, having to
settle for a field goal at the
beginning of the fourth.
West Georgia took
their first lead of the game
9-8, but it wouldn’t last
long.

has not excelled so far this season.
On the ensuing kick
off, the Wolves coverage
team allowed a return all
the way down to the UWG
40 yard line.
Just a few plays later.
Manning threw his second
touchdown of the game.
The Reddies tacked on a
two point conversion to
take the lead. 16-9.
On the Wolves’ next
drive, they failed to get a
single first down and were
forced to punt with just
over six minutes left.

game away with a 26 yard
field goal, but it w as wide

with one last chance to

Quarterback Brett
Yenser. who completed
50 percent of his pass
es on the night for 118
yards, appeared poised
to lead the Wolves to a
comeback.
The comeback fell
short though when Yenser
