After struggling
through an 0-4 spell, the
Wolves got back on track
this last week, going 4-0
and climbing back above
.500 on the season with a
14-12 record.
After a tough loss
at home to West Florida
last week, the Wolves got
back into the win column
against Gulf South Con
ference and in-state rival
Valdosta State.
In the first game,
the Wolves found them
selves up 26-11 and well
on their way to taking the
game. However, the Blaz
ers went on a 14-4 run to
give the Wolves a scare.
In the end, the Wolves
held on for a 30-25 win in
game one.
Even though the Blaz
ers did not complete the
comeback in game one, it
was apparent they gained
confidence in the process.
That confidence propelled
Valdosta State to a 30-27

win in game two. Game
three was reminiscent of
game one, as the Wolves
jumped out to a 13-5 lead
only to see the Blazers
come storming back. Just
as they did in game one,
the Wolves held on for the
win 30-23.
Game four saw the
Blazers jump out to an
11-4 lead as they seemed
ready to force a decisive
game five. It was here the
Wolves mustered a come
back, outscoring Valdo
sta State 26-14 to take
the game 30-28 and the
match 3-1.
The match was criti
cal for the Wolves and
their post-season hopes,
as a loss would have
dropped them to 2-6 in
Gulf South Conference
play. Instead, with the
win the Wolves move to
3-5 in GSC play and still
have a shot at the GSC
Tournament.
Carolin Schoeneck
played exceptionally
well, leading the team in
kills with 19 and blocks
with seven. Juliana da
Silva added 18 kills
while Kamille King lead
the defensive effort with
19 digs.
After the much need
ed GSC victory at home,
the Wolves traveled to
Montevallo, AL. for the
Montevallo Invitational.
Fort Valley State was the
first victim of the tourna
ment for the Wolves on
Friday night, falling 3-0.
The Wolves contin
ued their winning ways on
Saturday with a pair of vic
tories over Augusta State
and Lincoln Memorial. The
Wolves downed both teams
in impressive fashion,
sweeping each 3-0.
After the pair of
wins, UWG finished off
a perfect tournament go
ing 3-0 and did not lose a
single game.
The Wolves are now
14-12 on the season and
3-5 in GSC play.
The Wolves will play
host to West Alabama
Thursday night at 7 p.m.
before returning to Monte
vallo, AL. on Saturday for
a date with Montevallo.
Both games are GSC
contests and are critical
for the Wolves if they are
to make the GSC Tourna
ment.
