It’s no secret that
college students don’t
have any money. Most of
us work minimum-wage
paying part-time jobs and
only make enough to pay
our rent and pay for books.
But the one advantage to
being in college (apart from
the eventual degree) is the
student ID.
The student ID is a
versatile tool, not just on
a college campus but also
in college towns. Multiple
restaurants in Carrollton
offer student discounts
for poor, hungry college
students. The following is

An exciting new club
is about to take flight at
the University of West
Georgia. The Aviation
Club is being brought
back to UWG. The club
is pairing up with Plane
Sense. Inc, a flight training
school located right here
in Carrollton. The club is
for pilots, those aspiring to
become a pilot, and those
who enjoy learning about
aviation. There will be an
informational meeting on
Monday Feb. 19th at 6:00
p.m. at the EAA Hangar at
the West Georgia Regional
Airport.
At the meeting there
will be at least one plane
on display, students can
speak with experienced
pilots, learn the history of
aviation, get information
how to obtain their pilots
license through Plane
Sense, Inc and leam more
about the importance of
an Aviation Management
Degree. The industry of

The Job Expo takes place every
February, aimed at helping
students network, get their
resumes out to employers
and ultimately get a job. The
employers will be looking to hire
students for part time, full time,
internships and volunteer work.
There is no registration required
and all students interested in
employment are encouraged
changing, especially
since the attacks of 9/11.
An aviation management
degree would be very
valuable for students.
With this type of degree,
students could pursue jobs
such as air traffic control
operators, logistics and
operations. The pioneers of
the Aviation Club hope that
student interest in aviation
will show the need for such
a degree here at UWG.
Students that attend
the meeting will also
leam more about how to
become a student pilot
and a private pilot. They
will get information about
the “Be-a-Pilot" program
where for $59, Plane
Sense. Inc. will fly you
around the Carrollton area.
During your flight, you
will control the aircraft,
under the supervision
and guidance of an FAA
certified instructor.

On January 22, the
Carroll County Chamber
of Commerce presented a
commissioned sculpture
to the University of West
Georgia in honor of the
university’s year-long
centennial celebration.
Daniel Jackson,
president of operations for
the Chamber of Commerce/
Carroll Tomorrow hopes
that the sculpture will
serve as a reminder of the
close relationship between
UWG and the Carrollton
community: “We hope this
centennial gift serves as a
