Failure and folly: The Democrat Party at work
By Jacob Lovell
Stuff Writer
jlovelll @ my. westga. edu
I’ve already
chronicled the failures
of the current Democrat
controlled congress in
previous articles. We're
still at war, we’re still
funding the military
industrial complex via
taxes and inflation, and
the economy is still being
eaten away piecemeal.
Speaker of the House,
Nancy Pelosi, has not had
much to tout since the
‘Democratic Sweep’ from
last year. The minimum
wage has been raised, in
defiance of the Constitution
and its strictures on the role
of the Federal Government
(as well as being, to the
economy,either‘worthless’
or ‘catastrophic’). More
money has been spent
funding this illegal,
unnecessary war and, of
course, more money has
been demanded of the
American taxpayer.
Keep in mind that
George W. Bush cannot
fund his bloody war w ithout
money from Congress, and
Congress does not need

to vote to end the war.
Congress merely needs to
stop voting for the war and
the Iraq debacle would be
strangled economically
without the need to set
deadlines.
Knowing this, it is no
surprise that, according to
a CBS article on October
2nd, Congress’ approval
rating is at a pathetic 29%,
even lower than Bush’s
dismal 33% approval
rating. Clearly, the
Democrats have utterly
ignored the voters that
supported them last year.
While the extremists
who have chomped
down on the Democrat
line claim that a world
of unicorns and fairies
await us with a Democrat
controlled administration
in early 2009, the real
outlook is a little grimmer.
The Democrats will hold
up pro-war Clinton or
pro-war Obama as their
candidate. This, along
with the "frontrunners' of
the Republican party -
McCain, Romney.Giuliani,
and. now, Thompson
- would give us a national
election where the choices
are Warmonger Red and
Warmonger Blue.
While that is, indeed,
a dark outlook, there is
hope, and hope has a
name.
Even as Newt and
Huckabee were on
campus touting Newt’s
new self-promoting little
organization, a presidential
candidate by the name
of Dr. Ron Paul was on
the campaign trail. Paul,
an experienced member
of Congress from Texas,
raised more than $ 1 million
in campaign contributions
in just the 7 days previous
to Huckabee’s visit.
The third-quarter of
campaign fundraising
ended on Sunday,
September 3()th. All
told, the Congressman
raised more than $5
million in those months
alone, marking a 114%
increase over the previous
quarter. While Dr.
Paul skyrocketed, the
fundraising efforts of Mitt
Romney and John McCain
saw a drop of 29% and
55%, respectively. Even
Rudy Giuliani, though
he brought in the biggest
haul of cash amongst the
Republicans, saw a 40%
M
decline from the previous
quarter. Dr. Paul also
raised five times more
money than Huckabee.
The supposed
long-shot is now the
frontrunner amongst the
GOP candidates, but not
only because of the money
brought into his campaign.
Looking at the statistics
of the donors, themselves,
Dr. Paul dominates all
of his opponents, both
Republican and Democrat
alike. The percentage
of donors to Paul’s
campaign that make
small contributions (S2OO
or less) is higher than
that of all of the other
frontrunners, meaning that
Dr. Paul’s support does
not just come from the
rich or upper class. Paul, a
former Air Force surgeon,
has also raised more
money from both current
and former military than
any of his rivals, showing
that the troops support him
as much as he supports the
troops in his policies to get
them out of harm’s way.
Aside from
fundraising. Dr. Paul is
also a hands-down winner
in the issues arena. Dr.
Paul has never voted
for a Congressional pay
increase or to raise taxes.
He has never voted to
help fund corporatism or
benefit defense contractors
with your money. Paul
voted against the so-called
PATRIOT Act, and has
been a staunch defender
of personal liberties and
privacy.
He also has nothing
to apologize for when it
comes to the war: Unlike
Obama, Dr. Paul has never
voted to continue funding
the war, nor did he vote
to go into Iraq in the first
place, as Clinton did.
Every day, people are
waking up and listening
to the message of peace
and freedom that Dr.
Paul preaches. If you
have decided to ignore
that message and plan on
voting for the pro-war
Democrats regardless
of whatever worthwhile
candidate is running on the
Republican ticket, please
consider this:
In the state of Georgia,
you do not need to
change party affiliation or
otherwise declare a party
when voting in a primary.

That is to say, any Georgia
voter may participate in
any party’s primary (the
preliminary vote in January
that happens before the
national vote in November
of next year). If you
plan on voting Democrat
because you believe that
anything they have to offer
is better than anything the
Republicans offer, than do
not vote Democrat in the
primary on January 7, as
your vote would be utterly
wasted.
Instead, vote for
Republican Ron Paul. This
way, you will be helping a
pro-peace, pro-freedom
candidate get into the
national election such that,
even if the Republicans
win in 2008, at least it
won’t be any of the other
GOP candidates who are,
without exception, pro
war and anti-freedom.
If you follow my
advice, you’ll still be able
to vote for anyone you
wish in the final election,
and this is a good way to
hedge your bet. After all.
wouldn’t it be nice to have
two excellent candidates
running in the national
election?
