were selected by the Council on
American Overseas Research
Centers to participate on the
selection panels for the imme
diate and advanced level for
Chinese Language Studies. The
panel selects students who will
study Chinese language in an
intensive study program in the
People’s Republic of China.
Coles also served as one of the
international jurists for documen
tary films for the International Film
Festival of Guadeloupe held in Le
Lamentin on Jan. 27 - Feb. 4.
Yang also co-hosted the
2012 Faculty Development in
International Business Program
in China with the University of
Colorado-Denver and Brigham
Young University, Jan. 1-11.
Vicki Crawford, executive direc
tor of the Morehouse College
Martin Luther King Jr. Collection,
wrote an essay on Martin Luther
King Jr. and the civil and human
rights movement that was
featured on CNN.com's blog,
“Schools of Thought” in January.
Crawford also was quoted in U.S.
News & World Report in a Jan.
13 story about educating college
students about King.
Elise Durham, media relations
manager, has been named the
event producer for the Atlanta
Association of Black Journalists'
2012 Pioneer Black Journalists
Awards ceremony. The Pioneer
Black Journalists Awards, which is
in its 30th year, recognizes journal
ists in the area of television, print,
radio, public relations and digital
media who have displayed exem
plary work in portraying the African
American experience in the metro
Atlanta community.
C.O. Hollis, chief audit officer, was
featured in the Feb. 10 edition of
the Atlanta Business Chronicle as
part of a section on internal audi
tors. In the edition, Hollis also wrote
an opinion piece titled, “Internal
Auditing Losing Its Stereotypes.”
Ocoszio Jackson, a sophomore
political science major from Dublin,
Ga., attended the prestigious
Harvard Kennedy School Public
Policy Conference, February 23-26.

who possess a commitment to pub
lic service to prepare for graduate
study in public policy and internation
al affairs, as well as to provide infor
mation on financial support through
various fellowship programs.

sentation titled “Coaching Through
Assessment: Women’s Leadership
in the Workplace," March 2 dur
ing the 2012 Academy of Human
Resource Development International
Research Conference in The
Americas in Denver, Colo.
Toni O’Neal Mosley, director
of public relations, was recognized
as one of the founding editors of
the Atlanta Tribune magazine in
its December 2011/January 2012
25th anniversary edition.
Laura Seay, assistant professor
of political science, was part of a
Feb. 28 panel at Goucher College
in Baltimore, Md., on the mineral
trade and conflict in the eastern
Democratic Republic of Congo. The
Center for Global Development in
Washington, D.C., commissioned
Seay to write a paper on the topic.
The CGD also will host a debate on
Seay’s paper on March 20.
Ron Thomas, director of the
Journalism and Sports Program,
has an article appearing in the
New York Timed online opinions
page titled "Room for Debate.”

Taylor Williams, a senior English
major from Miami, Fla., is one
of 25 students nationally chosen
for the third cohort of Woodrow
Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fund
Fellowships for Aspiring Teachers
of Color. Fellowships for Aspiring
Teachers of Color were created to
help recruit, support and retain indi
viduals of color as public educators,
teachers and administrators.

sor, were among the honorees in the 2nd Annual Diamond
Awards held on March 17 in the Ray Charles Performing
Arts Center.
Presented by the non-profit Not Alone Foundation, Inc.,
the Diamond Awards honors individuals in the entertain
ment and business worlds who, through their perseverance
and success, have made a significant impact on their fields.
Some of the other honorees included actors and enter
tainers Anthony Anderson, Louis Gossett Jr., Lisa Raye,
Jackee Harry, NeNe Leakes and the director and cast of
the movie “Red Tails”; business leaders Ray Goodwill of
Goodwill Industries, Shan Cooper of Lockheed Martin and
Johnnie Booker of The Coca-Cola Company.
Hosted by actresses Lynn Whitfield and Terri J. Vaughn,
the Diamond Awards featured performances by singers Avery
Sunshine and Demetria McKinney.
This is the biggest fund-raiser annually for the Not Alone
Foundation, which provides financial assistance, along with
educational and medical resources for chronic kidney disease
and end-stage renal disease patients and their families.
The Foundation’s CEO, Mark Dodd ’09, has suffered
from kidney disease.
“We are excited that the entertainment and business
communities have once again connected for this great cause
to save the lives of those affected with kidney disease,” Dodd
said. “I am honored to be an ambassador for this disease and
I have dedicated my life to research and raising dollars and
awareness to this medical issue.”
