Name: Zandra K. Everett
Title: Admissions Specialist
Supervisor
Hometown: Hillside, N.J.
Tenure at Morehouse:
10 1 /2 years
Something not commonly
known about Zandra:
She is a self-described "book
addict.” Zandra reads at
least five books each week,
but owns very few books of
her own. She’s a huge sup
porter of the public library
system.
U I’m responsible for all of the admissions applications that arrive here at
Morehouse and making sure that they are processed in a timely manner.
But my duties extend far outside of the Admissions Office. I’m the senior class
adviser and I also work with the Homecoming committee each year. I work with
the students to put on the Miss Maroon and White pageant each spring and con
tinue to assist the queen and her court throughout the year by making sure they
are where they need to be and are present at official times.
The thing I like most about Morehouse is working with the students. They are
one of the main reasons that I am here. I get a lot of joy out of seeing them arrive on
campus as freshmen, progressing through their years here and watching them gradu
ate. It’s really nice to see that entire metamorphosis. I guess I serve as an unofficial
guide or adviser for them. At any given time, I may have an office full of students
who come for direction, advice on what they should do or where they should go
about a variety of issues. It’s like I’m the sister or mother away from home for them.
I have guys who graduated calling me often to say, ‘Hello, Mom,’ or to wish me a
happy Mother’s Day. I really love working with them.
