In August, he was on the cover of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, and in September, he was featured in Ebony. Vicki Crawford, director of the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Collection, was a panelist for the discussion "Education and Civil Rights” on Sept. 12 during Empowerment Week activities in Birmingham, Ala. Michael Dillon, associate professor and chair of the ja^PHj^H9| Department of Modern Foreign ^ Lan 9 ua 9 es ’ has wi tten a book Ecuadorian Cinema Posters, 1969-2919 (CCE Benjamin Carrion, 2014). An article about the book [ Sr t was published in the Ecuadorian newspaper, El Comercio, on April 11. Senior Marvin Greer, a history major from Atlanta, was featured in a July 15th Atlanta Journal- Constitution story about black Civil War re-enactors. ——Troy Story ’62, professor iC, of chemistry, presented the k# jrMM paper, "Mathematical Model *! for Economic Growth,” and chaired a session during the 2014 International Conference on Education, Economics, Psychology and Society, March 14-16 in Phuket, Thailand. He also presented the paper "Mathematical Models of Dynamics” and chaired a session at the 2014 International Symposium on Engineering and Natural Sciences, May 22-24, in Beijing, China. B Keisha Edwards Tassie assistant professor of communication, co-edited a book Sonja Brown Givens, Underserved Women of Color, Voice and Resistance: Claiming A Seat at the Table The book examines ways women of color have their voices restrained within the restrictive, intersecting contexts of race, gender, class and sexuality. Frederick Knight, associate professor and chairman of history, received a Mellon Short- Term Fellowship in Early African American History at the Library Company of Philadelphia. The fellowship supported a month of research in June that centered on the African American community in 19th-century Philadelphia. As a result of his findings, Knight will produce a scholarly article on Jarena Lee, the first female preacher in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Darien Jones, a sophomore religion/English major from Millsboro, Del., was quoted in a July 14 Cape Gazette.com story about his town's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. Rubina Malik, instructor of marketing, was named an education-category nominee for the 2014 Leadership Character Award presented by the Turknett Leadership Group and the Robert K, Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership. Juana Mendenhall, assistant professor of chemistry, was a visiting professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Department of Orthopaedics, June-August 2014. She is also a recipient of Howard Buffet Funding to Develop Clean Water Filters from the Great Lakes Region of Africa. He said the love he received from the Morehouse com munity each week made competing much easier. “The support has been incredible,” he said. “Morehouse brothers, alumni, current students, AUC family coming up to me, saying how proud they were and telling me that I made Morehouse proud, no matter the outcome. They were sending messages saying that they were praying for me and voting for me. It was seen in the outcome. And 1 am eternally grateful.” ■
